brian webb for cbs news. >> the republican candidates face off in their first debate next month. >>> the main route between california and arizona is closed after a major interstate bridge collapse. flood waters washed out the texas washington bridge yesterday and it forced commuters to go hundreds of miles out of their way. john blackstone has more. >> reporter: a 30 by 50 foot section of california's interstate 10 freeway collapsed sunday sending this truck over the edge of the roadway. bystanders reportedly used straps tied to guard rails to keep the truck from falling into the water below. it took nearly two hours to rescue its injured driver. when the eastbound side of i-10 gave way, people driving this major artery between los angeles and phoenix saw hours long backups in both directions. >> i had to double back, back into arizona and then south on the 95, down to yiewm pa which is -- yuma which is pretty much on the border of mexico. it was pretty much a sef and a half, eight-hour detour. >> reporter: the city of corona saw water and mud rolling down its hills. following a mas
