john berman has the day off. police in thailand on the hunt for a man they believe may be connected with a deadly attack in bangkok. officials say the man is seen on closed circuit tv but they cannot confirm his identity just yet. looking at footage going back as far as two weeks prior to the attack to see if they see anything suspicious. 22 people were killed. more than 100 other people hurt after a terrorist pipe bomb targeted a hindu shrine. an area popular with locals and tourists. the explosion shattering windows creating panic in the street. we're looking at frightening video captured at the moment of the blast. cnn's asia pacific editor andrew stevens on the phone for us. andrew, the pictures just devastating. >> reporter: absolutely, christine. the death toll currently standing at 22. that bomb was primed to detonate with maximum impact. meaning it was timed to go off when the shrine area was at its busiest. a lot of thais coming home from work going into that shrine to pay respects, to receive blessings.

christine romans is the chief correspondent and i watch her every morning with john berman. >> i get up early. >> i'm a knucklehead when it comes to this stuff. it's august and hard to get people on the phone because so many people are on vacation. >> it is vacation season. that can make the big swings worse. this has been a long overdue thing. i would say don't panic, it's long overdue and there are a lot of reasons why the stocks fell. >> what are they? >> china is slowing and there are a lot of concerns that we don't know how slow it is growing. there are a couple numbers there discouraging. and a number of markets see the chinese economic miracle of the last 20 years and the multinational company deriving money from there. oil crashed below $40 a barrel. great for consumers in this country will see $2 gas by fall. i think you will see $2 gas by halloween, many parts will, maybe not chicago with the refinery issues, but crashing oil prices and interest rates rising soon. we don't know when but the interest rates will rise. all those things together really gelled into a big, big ma
