this picture was tweeted by cal fire. we're told there are no fire alarms in the building. it was someone passing by on summit road off of highway 17 in the santa cruz mountains who saw the fire and called 911. firefighters arrived and found the building next to the gymnasium with flames through the roof. about 55 firefighters from cal fire, santa clara county, scott valley worked to put it out. after an hour they were able to extinguish it. a fire investigator was on the scene. he wasn't able to determine if it was suspicious or not but he did say this. >> it's a pretty tight knit community up here. there typically isn't a lot of trouble up here for a fire to happen at 11:30 at an empty school. it's out of the ordinary. we don't get a lot of fires up here so we take it pretty seriously. >> fire officials are not able to tell if the fire started on the inside or the outside of the building. the investigator is waiting until it gets light outside to look around for evidence to determine a cause. the gymnasium has significant smoke and water damage and the community center wh

a cal fire spokesman said that the deaths are a reminder of the dangers that firefighters are facing out there. coming up at 4:30, we'll touch base with cal fire about the fires burning up and down the state. >>> san jose police are investigating two officer- involved shooting that happened within 24 hours of each other, one of the other major stories we are following, and police have given us an update on the latest information they have. the first shooting, officers were called to virginia avenue and south 34th at 6:20 last night on a report of a stabbing. the suspect ran off when police arrived. officers tracked him down, and there was a confrontation. police say that the officers who shot the man feared for their lives. the suspect died at the scene. the person who stabbed was hospitalized and is in critical condition. the second incidents near san marcos and gomes drive in north san jose. police were called after a man was reported outside a relative's home with a shotgun. the officers discharged their weapons but the man was not hit. he was barricaded in the home for five hours

tonight, cal fire is pull -- explodes in a matter of hours. tonight, cal fire is pulling people off another fire to fight it. >> the jerusalem fire erupted in if lake county at 3:30 this afternoon. this shows you where it is compared to the massive rocky fire that is still burning tonight. this fire went from 100 acres to 3,000 in a matter of hours picking up a huge plume of smoke, moving so fast that cal fire pulled crews off of the rocky fire to get this fire under control. at last check there is 0 containment on this new fire as the flames tear through dry grass and brush. homes threatened and mandatory evacuation orders are issued tonight. >> initially we move north to northeast. the fire is moving if a eastward direction. the exact number of the people evacuated but the entire area off of jerusalem grade road and all of the roads here it has been ordered evacuated. >> reporter: evacuees are ordered to a high school. the smoke plumes can be seen for hours. 30 miles from middletown. this is how the plume looked. another one, 40 miles away.

cal fire is looking into how it started. that is under investigation but it began right next to the rocky fire. there are mandatory evacuations for parts of lake county stretching into the napa county and yellow county lines. a few moments ago i had a chance to speak about the intense fire fight there. >> there is a lot of challenges with the terrain, with the weather. with fatigue. we if still have resources coming in as we speak throughout the night. >> cal fire's strategy to fight the fire is to attack it late at night and early in the morning because of the low temperatures and high humidity. they hope to contain the jerusalem fire by monday. about 150 people are under evacuation orders. 50 homes those are people that live in the 50 homes threatened by this fire. sky fox has brought you amazing footage of the jerusalem footage both in the air and on the ground. but a little later on we will show you some time lapse video that someone took of that area where the jerusalem fire is burn. it's pretty impress i. it will be co
