you mentioned in your opening testimony the amtrak accident outside of philadelphia 188. and i had some personal contact with that in the fact i had some very good friends of mine who lost their daughter in that very tragic accident. and their first contact with amtrak was a very impersonal cold call from a claims adjuster of some sort who said that they would be willing to pay reasonable funeral costs and that was amtrak's response which did not sit well with the family as you can imagine through a very traumatic time. now, amtrak is under statutory requirements of a family assistance plans and i have inserted amendment in the railroad enhancement act and hopefully will pass and my colleagues seem to be concerned that's going to pass that we're going to be dealing with some issues with positive train control and others but in that amendment that is part of that, i require your agency, the ntsa and others, ntsb to look at the amtrak family assistance republicans and determine whether they're followed. i'd like to hear from you if anyone else at fra have looked into amtrak

a 16-year-old was hit and killed yesterday by an amtrak train in boyds, maryland. students were all dressed in the same color to remember their classmate. derrick ward is live outside of the school with more on today's tribute. good morning. >> reporter: it is certainly expected to be a solemn day here once the school bell rings after the death of a member of the student body. student family here at clarksburg high school. it happened yesterday afternoon. sometime after 4:00 p.m. 16-year-old john martin dereggi jr. was walking along the train tracks in the 1500 block of barnsville road near the boyd's maryland marc station. walking with with other teens. police say they are still investigating why he walked on to the tracks in front of northbound amtrak train. student body reacted immediately, on social media. there are tweets noting that this tragic loss happened and calling for condolences to be sent to the family. and asking everyone to wear blue to honor their fellow student. this disrupted traffic along the line of the marc trains were delayed for hours. inves
