"france 24's" marcus karlsson is here in studio. let start with news out of the united states. >> investors have been asking for months when u.s. interest rates will be heading higher, and today, this friday, we got through a piece of economic data that could shed more light on this issue. the u.s. economy added 173,000 jobs during the month of august. that was fewer than expected. but looking beyond the headline, analysts say the report was fairly strong. that is probably because of this number right here. the unemployment rate in the united states dipped to 5.1% in august, which is the lowest we have seen since april of 2008. at the same time, previous estimates of jobs added in june and july were revised higher, and on average over the past three months, the u.s. economy has added more than it00,000 jobs. on top of that, wages are heading higher, which is seen as a sign of a strengthening labor market at least by some. some say that a strong jobs report could prompt the federal reserve to raise interest rates in the united states
