. >> reporter: in this go pro video taken by a fisherman near huntington beach, you can see just how close the hammer head shark gets to the boat. robert wagner has been fishing his entire life and owns wagner charters. he was fishing for yellow tail sunday morning when all of a sudden a 10-foot hammer head bit the bait ball off the rope that didn't have a hook on it so the hammer head got a lot of fish and wagner got toÑ, see something he's never seen before. >> this is actually happening. this is a rare occurrence and something you don't see every day. >> reporter: there's been several sightings recently of hammer head sharks throughout the southern california coast. on saturday a kayaker in malibu was dangling his leg in the water and got bit by a hammer head shark. is he expected to be okay. while it's not rare to see sharks, hammer heads are very rare in southland waters. ralph is a shark expert and has been researching sharks in california since 1962. he says he hasn't heard of this many sightings since the '60s. >> these sharks are everywhere moving up here following their

this is a look at huntington beach in orange county. strong waves could hit in a few hours. >> now for the latest on the sue pho me advisory we president -- on the tsunami advisory, let's check in with sandhya patel. >> let's take a look at the earthquake and just how powerful the waves that have been generated all the way from the chile coast owl toward the pacific. it is across the pacific and in a northwesterly fashion. that's where the strongest energy has gone. this is what is prompting the tsunami varies re. they are not expecting a major tsunami or major waves. it is certainly possible that a series of dangerous waves many hours after the arrival time may actually occur. the first may not be the largest which is why there is concern. the tsunami advisory is not for the bay area, but for raged point to san san onofre state beach. it arrives at 4:46 a.m. the best advice is get off the beaches and out of the harbors and the marinas. in santa cruz we are expected to find the first in the morning. estimated height is .4 feet. the last

it happened at the intersection of west huntington park avenue and westmoreland street. that's where jesse gary is right now. what is happening now? >> reporter: crews are using front end loaders and shovels to remove mounds of mud still sitting on hunting park avenue so the roadway can be reopened to traffic. you can see the mud off in the distance. that mud extends up to where i'm standing. not quite as thick here but you get the idea. mud all along the roadway. that mud was made when millions of gallons of water, estimated 15 million gallons, began flowing from a 48-inch water transmission main near the old tastykake factory in north philadelphia. the roadway underneath the railroad overpass was flooded and impassable and at a certain point started to buckle down. water department officials had stated low pressure had been reported in the area. >> were some low pressure issues. we didn't turn anyone's water off, when you have a main of this size break, sometimes pressure goes down. >> reporter: john di giulio says full pressure and service was restored late last night

yesterday near catalina island west of huntington beach, michael harris of san francisco was killed. he recently graduated from santa clara university with a master's -- master's in psychology. harris and for other people were on a dinghy that was apparently hit by another boat. one person still missing. last night the coast guard suspended the search and expected to resume this morning. >>> that's when they collided at catalina island. when -- one individual was deceased, three were injured and another was [ audio not understandable ] the coast guard to people including harris' girlfriend suffered mine's injuries and the third person suffered head injury, peter harris said yesterday in, our son michael died this morning while living his life as he did every day with kindness, friendship, love of family, caring for others, having fun, being a friend and is one of the really good guys. -- my deepest condolences go out to the harris family # rest in peace, michael. >>> san francisco police made an arrest in connection with a violent confrontation during last month's critical mass of by

a week after that, a portion of new port beach and huntington beach were closed after a great white bumped into a life guard surfing. then, in santa barbara, a large shark took a big bite out after a fisherman's kayak. as for what happened in malibu saturday afternoon, no beach closures following this attack because it was so far offshore. hutchens says he still plans to get back in the water this sunday despite the encounter. >> just last week, a shark took a bite out of a woman's surfboard near morrow bay. she was not hurt. >>> two napa county firefighters are recovering after rolling their rig down the embankment. they were on their way to a motorcycle crash. somehow, the truck ran off the road and tumbled into a creek bed 30 feet below. they suffered only minor injuries but the rig was terribly damaged. a special tow truck had to haul it out. >>> it is a perfect weekend for a swim in the russian river. that's the problem. the water is not safe for children and pets. experts are trying to get the word out on the toxic algae, but not everybody is heing the warning. mark kelly reports. >>

>> you're looking at a real life water rescue, a huntington state beach in california, this is all caught on a life guard's go pro, and you can see him paddling toward a drowning woman screaming for help, intense moments there. the the swimmer was caught in a strong rip current and life guard, gives the with man a buoy, and then pulls her to shore. she was one of 500 people rescued last week even. a a lot of people in the same situation. life guards say most of the rescues were people in waist deep water. it doesn't have to be deep waters to get involved in serious trouble. >> rip currents are very dangerous. we have a holiday weekend coming up where lots of people are in the water, so lets talk about rip currents to give you a heads up what you need to do and look for. if you see a rip current things you will notice are choppy water, the wave motion will be different, and see things like different color in the water and break in the wave pattern. way to get out of it is to swim out to sea and then swim parallel to the shore. it is when people try to swim toward the shore that they get in
