at the end of the day this is a defining moment for mr. trump. the man in that audience has to be put in his place by the person who is answering the question. if you have any doubt about president obama, where he was born, and apparently mr. trump does, get that behind you. i don't think it is going to be good for the republican party to elect somebody as their nominee to make somebody the nominee who doubts that president obama was born in hawaii. mr. trump in many ways is responsible for this, by creating this idea that maybe obama was born in kenya, not hawaii, saying that most illegal immigrants or rapists and drug dealers, he's playing into this hateful narrative. it's now time for him to set it right. >> do you have any concerns that you might suffer the fate of other republican candidates who have -- >> not at all. >> -- taken on trump? >> not at all. it's not donald trump i'm taking on, it's the guy. i'm asking mr. trump -- history will judge us all. whether i win this primary or not, i'm going to be lindsey graham. lindsey graham is not

trump, mr. trump hit back." i'm sure at that moment when everybody in the political world was taken aback by him saying john mccain is not a war here re, i'm sure he was very grateful to have that statement of support from this group called veterans for a strong america. but it does appear to be just one guy. this is not iava. this is not iraq and afghanistan veterans of america. this is not disabled american veterans, veterans of foreign affairs but just a guy named joel from south dakota. the most recent fec filing for veterans for a strong american, the pac for this group, shows they have $30 in the bank against that is $30 cash on hand, they have debt and obligations totally $318 payable to something called red state productions which also appears to be just this guy joel from south dakota. and veterans for a strong america operating out of the same post office box and led by that one guy joel, that, quote unquote, group, that group is going to be the recipient of the funds raised tonight from this night on

let's run the trump first. mr. trump: this is a self-funded campaign. we have our heart in it. we have our soul in it. we don't need money, we don't want money, and this will be a campaign like no others. i am not controlled by lobbyists. i'm not controlled by anybody. i'm controlled by the people of the country in order to make our country great again. brian: what do you hear? robert: this has been trump's m.o. politically for the last 15 years. when i talked to him in february, my sense was trump was going to run. we put it on the front page of the "washington post." a lot of people said, what are you doing? if you look at it objectively and you don't assume anything about who he is or what that some people think he is a sideshow. if you look objectively at what he was saying, he was articulating a political message earlier this year about understanding the political class was extremely unpopular. he thought he could run as someone who wasn't in the political class and did not need the money. brian: in the middle of the year 1992, perot came back. here is after he came back.
