"today in the bay" bob redell live in san lorenzo for us this morning. bob, all this could stem from what deputies found inside that man's home. >> reporter: sam and laura, there are roughly 200 pot plants that the homeowner had been growing inside his home here in san lorenzo. it was supposed to be a secret, but two other people learned of what was going on inside. last night around 11:30 this homeowner returned to his house to find two men who had broken to into his home trying to steal the marijuana plants. they briefly ran out, quickly returned, hit the homeowner, the homeowner grabbed a knife and chased the two burglary suspects away. it was a neighbor who actually called 911, they called the commotion, and they called 911 in spite of pleas from the homeowner not to call 911 because the deputies do not believe that he wants them to be aware of what's going on inside. they are now intervening the homeowner, the deputies are, and telling us he is not being super cooperative. >> the homeowner has a cannabis card, is a caregiver of some sort, but the pl

bob redell is live in san jose. bob, it really appears the trouble inside the jail is going well beyond the alleged beating death recently of an inmate. >> laura, the santa claire sheriff office tells us it is now investigating as many as 100 more complaints against its deputies that work here at the main jail here in santa clara in downtown san jose. weeks ago the sheriff's office put three correctional officers on paid leave for thuledged beating death in august of michael tyree an inmate who was mentally ill. the district attorney has since charged those three deputies with murder within the past 24 hours. we have learned that the sheriff laurie smith has put another five deputies on paid leave. all she'd say is that none of the five are in trouble for excessive force against inmates, but a source tells us that three of the deputies allegedly exchanged racist texts. at the same time, the coroners released a preliminary autopsy report showed no definitive cause of death for another inmate, 33-year-old walter roche

bob redell has more. bob? >> reporter: he was a suspected shoplifter trying to steal razors from this winco foods in pittsburg. that's why police released this surveillance camera image of this man. this is the suspect. the surveillance camera not only caught him leaving but caught him allegedly in the act of trying to steal those items. as he tried to leave the store, five winco store employees confronted him, tried to get him to stop from leaving, that's when the man pulled out a medium sized knife and started stabbing. he stabbed three employees, two in the arm, one in the back. fortunately even though they had to be taken to the hospital, their injuries are to the life threatening. unfortunately this man was able to get away. law enforcement had a chopper and canines involved in the search. again, he did get away. that's why they are releasing that image in case you recognize him. reporting live in pittsburg, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> we've been talking about hurricane weather but we also have loc

. >> bob redell live outside police headquarters with the latest. how is the officer doing, bob? >> laura and sam, considering he could have been killed how dangerous that was being pinned up against another car. this officer is doing okay. san francisco police tell us that he is in stable condition with possible broken, possible broken ribs and injuries to his legs. now, the person who did this, the suspect, the driver accused of pinning the officer with the car has been arrested. you can see him there. he is handcuffed to a gurney being taken to the hospital for unknown injuries. this happened around midnight here in sf. police were responding to an auto burglary at the time. the first officer got out of his car to investigate and that's when the suspect had broken into the vehicle, stepped on the gas and tried to run over the officer. he struck him. pinned him up against the officer's squad car. the suspect then tried to escape, but slammed into another responding police car. police took him into custody. they also detained two other men who were possibly involved in this crim

b bob redell is there now. it's supposed to keep bicyclists safe. >> reporter: 3,000 bicyclists come into san francisco especially on market, as you mentioned, between goth and 12th street. muni and the public works department will raise this green bike lane you see here. they'll raise it just probably halfway between the street level and curb. so still shorter than the curb. and as you head back into the auto lane, it will taper off. the raised bike lane would be built over existing bike lanes, not lead to the loss of parking spots. the idea is to make travel safer by discouraging drivers from veering into the bike lanes, muni and the city hopes it will discourage bicyclists from using the sidewalk. >> market is a great place to demonstrate this project, because it will help the agency working on it figure out how to roll these out on streets across the city. >> reporter: muni will study the project before building more raised lanes. the city has already committed to doubling the number of regular bike lanes o

bob redell joining us live there now. authorities are running one of them, armed and dangerous still. >> reporter: police have identified one of the men accused of shooting and killing another man in a parked car outside the cvs. police are on the lookout for this man right here you can see in this photo, 18-year-old jason brown, who incidentally is also wanted for another murder in fresno. police thought they had brown cornered at one point. this was yesterday morning. a swat team surrounded and stormed brown's family home in west oakland. brown's car was there. but not brown himself. brown and another man alleged used a high-powered rifle, possibly a military style assault rifle to shoot two men in a parked car outside the cvs pharmacy here at the arcade shopping center. this happening just after 6:00 saturday night. it was a busy time. the driver of the car died. the passenger is seriously injured. both the victims are in their 20s, reportedly from the central valley in an area north of tracy. chp did chase brown and h

. >> bob redell live in san jose with more on what we do know. bob? >> the santa clara county sheriff's office put three deputies on paid leave for the death of michael tyree that took place back in august. he was mentally ill. this was the alleged beating death and the three deputies face murder charges on. now, we learned that sheriff smith put another deputies on paid leave but she won't say why. the "mercury news" says none are in trouble for excessive force against inmates. sheriff smith also told the paper that her office is investigating in as many as 100 other complaints filed against her deputies against tyree's death death four weeks ago. no definitive cause of death for another inmate. 33-year-old walter roches who was discovered dead in his cell on monday. no foul play or acute injury and could be weeks before an exact cause of death is determined. reporting live here outside the main jail in downtown san jose, bob redell. >> thank you very much. >>> millions of californians with suspended licenses may have a chance now to get their licens

bob redell joins us from the scene. sounds like the suspects that were there, left the scene and then came back. >> reporter: that's correct, sam. in the process of responding to this the alameda county sheriff's office discovered what they describe as quite a marijuana grow at this home in san lorenzo. you can see the doors are shut behind me, they have shut the doors so detectives can go in there and conduct a search. they are trying to determine whether or not this grow is illegal or not. this is after they have turned a warrant for the search early in the evening. they are still looking for the burglary descriptions. they are both hispanic men. they are interviewing the homeowner and his girlfriend who a slgt says are not being super cooperative. it was around 11:30 last night, the man came home to find the pro two suspects inside trying to collect and steal some of the roughly 200 pot plants that he has been growing downstairs. the burglars fled briefly, then came back, beat up the homeowner. during that fight the

"today in the bay" bob redell live in san lorenzo. deputies stumbled across quite a scene. >> reporter: you are correct, laura and sam. the aeld county sheriff's office told us they found 200 mature pot plants in this home. the detectives just received a search warrant so they can legally go back inside and conduct an investigation into whether or not that grow is legal or illegal. deputies made this discovery while responding to a burglary at this home around midnight. two people who lived here were returning home when they found two other people that had broken inside, there was some sort of fight, one of the suspects might have been stabbed, both burglars ended up running down the street and took off in a car. deputies did find a mature pot planned in the entryway with blood on the ground, then a couple hundred more plants downstairs. law enforcement is interviewing the residents who live here and still are looking for the suspects. they believe the burglary is somehow related to that marijuana grow. reporting in san lorenzo, bob r
