jim smith is in chopper 2 over east harlem. jim -- >> reporter: yeah, mary, there are numerous closures in the area but the fdr closure, the one affecting the the most travelers in the area. the fdr is shut down the between 96th street and 125th street. and also the exit for the rfk bridge. that was the closure northbound at 96th street. the bumper-to-bumper delays will take you back down into the 40s and also on the southbound side, traffic will be taken off the fdr drive are delays there as well. and there are also delays affecting traffic off the triborough bridge as there's no access to the fdr drive. delays are wrapping around on the rfk bridge if the manhattan side over on to the queens side and of course, no access to the willis avenue bridge due to the closure on the fdr drive. 1st and 27 avenues are picking up much of the alternate volume as is the deegan expressway. leave yourself extra time if you're traveling in the area. >> thank you. >>> and as they mourn officer holder, the nypd is searching for gerald brook, the

he was shot and killed on the job in east harlem tuesday night. all week long people have hon on nor honored his memory. >> he was a very good officer, respectful, quiet. >> reporter: police have arrested 30-year-old tyrone howard. they arrested him the night ot f the shooting. he has been charged in holder's death. every day more and more people are coming by to pay their respects. officer's holder's funeral will be held on wednesday in queens. >>> mayor de blasio wants bail reforms following the fatal shooting of officer holder. tyrone howard, a repeat drug offender with numerous arrests was out on bail when police say he killed officer holder in a shootout. >> when the risk to the public cannot be legally considered in the bail process, when it's not required to be considered in the diversion process, something is fundamentally wrong. and it inhibits judges from using their best judgment and doing their jobs to the fullest. >> new york is one of the few states where judges can't consider potential danger to the community when setting bail. >>>

harlem near the fdr drive and the east river. he was 33 and had been an officer for five years. police say howard is a career criminal with gang ties with at least one active warrant for his arrest at the time of last night's shooting. and this was the scene moments ago at the jeremiah gaffney funeral home where the body of officer holder just arrived to a hero's salute. dari: you know, a lot of people are shaking their heads tonight because officer holder is the fourth member of the nypd to be killed in the line of duty in 11 months. ben: even though the city says crime is down, the potential danger officers face never changes. lisa evers here now with more on what officers are dealing with every day. officer holder is reinforcing the sense that police officers' lives are always on the line and that deadly violence can erupt at any moment, especially with the large number of illegal guns on the street and especially in public housing developments. while overall crime is down, the number of officers killed in the line of duty is

tracie strahan in east harlem. tracie, thank you. >> officer holder calm er er came from a family of lawmen, following his father and grandfather's footsteps when he joined the force. we want to go to kat creag for the latest. >> reporter: and michael, there are flowers inside the police station here. what you see on the outside, the black and purple bunting that shows a tragedy happened in this city. there is a great deal of mourning here.d he was well loved, according to his father, by his father and nypd family. that was evident when we saw this. the fellow officers, dozens of them who stood in lines, as officer holder was transported to the medical examiner's office. they saluted. he comes from a family of cops. his father talked with some of the offi rs last night who and he, the father, was the one trying to comfort them. officer holder was only 33 years old, a five-year veteran of the nypd, joining the force in july of 2010. he's a third-generation policeman. also, the fourth nypd officer killed in less than
