garvin thomas sheer with tonight's bay area proud. >> jason johnson grew up in the east bay city of pittsburgh facing he admits lots of challenges. he didn't have a lot of positive role models. he swore, though, if he ever got the chance, he'd be that for other kids. the promise he's going to great lengths to deliver on. >> reporter: when he first joined the force seven years agag ago, san francisco police officer jason johnson like every rookie went through a probationary period. his was about over when his captain conducted certainly the shortest job interview jason had ever been a part of. >> he's like what do you like to do? he said, i like kids. he's like, really? i said yeah. >> reporter: turns out there was a community policing spot open at the willie mays boys and girls club. jason agreed to try it for a month. but came back to his captain the very next day. >> you're here one day. i said, i know. this is where i want to be. >> reporter: jason, or officer j.j. as the kids call him, is now a fixture in their life. not just at the club, but checking in on them at school. or organizing a
