i'm raj mathai. >> i'm jessica aguirre. we've learned in the past hour two more santa clara county correctional deputies have been arrested. >> we have more what the sheriff is saying about the arrests. it's been a trying time for this jail. >> reporter: most definitely. the sheriff did not speak to the media moments ago here. it was a communications sergeant as well as a captain with the police department. they did confirm that two correctional deputies, not officers, deputies have been arrested and booked. one identified as ryan sanders, on eight counts of illegally accessing records of people, according to the sheriff's spokesman, who he had a personal relationship with. the other deputy arrested and booked, mark navarette, identified by the spokespeople here, on a worker's compensation fraud case claiming, according to them, that he had filed a claim that he had been injured on the job when, in fact, he had not been injured on the job. he, according to them, had been injured on his personal time. we do not know the deta

good evening, i'm jessica aguirre. >> i'm raj mathai. the man said he stabbed his girlfriend but was turned away by the jail. nbc bay area's reporter is at the sheriff's office with the explanation. chuck? >> reporter: no interviews on how 2-year-old hugo castro was told to go to police. after he was told to turn himself in. the santa clara's main jail. monday morning, hugo castro walked in to the main jail with a note that he knew of a dead body. he was tiled go to san jose police. officers detained him while they went to a condo complex and found the body of a woman castro dated. police arrested and questioned castro who they say confessed to killing her. but it has added one more incident for a blue ribbon commission alerted to scrutinize jail personnel. the first thing you do is you called some one who has the authority to ask that person questions. sit them down in an interview room. talk about it. identify, the location. the victim were still alive. the person could perhaps be saved. >> the sheriff issued a state saying castro want

good evening, i'm jessica aguirre. >>> i'm raj mathai t started with a stolen gun. sfpd is piecing together a wild and deadly prime spree. a lot of answers but still one big question. why? san francisco police say both victims were shot with the same gun. the hiker in marin county and the young tourist in golden gate park. the suspects, these are their pictures. the three drifters are officially facing murder charges in one of those killings. here are the victims. those charges were filed by the marin county district attorney within the past hour. all three were captured in oregon and are expected to be back here in a matter of days. nbc bay area's jodi hernandez is at fisherman's wharf with the details. >> reporter: police say it started here near fishermen's wharf where a gun was stolen from a parked car. this suspect used that same gun just a couple of days later to attack their first victim. >> as of right now we believe the robbery was a motive in both killings. >> reporter: san francisco police say that's what spurred a trio of drifters to take aim at two inno

. >> i'm jessica aguirre. a disturbing anonymous tip prompting uc police to step up patrols on campus and fraternity houses. the tip, a student was given a date rape drug and blacked out. the question is are there more out there? live in berkeley. police are having a hard time figuring out what happened and if anything else is going to happen too. >> reporter: it's because the tip was not terribly specific. it didn't name a fraternity, nor a victim. there's no indication that anyone was assaulted. however, date rape drugs were reportedly given to sorority members at a fraternity last weekend. that was reported and that was enough for cal sororities to put the word out on social media. sorority members said they were glad for the warning they'd received throughout the greek community today. >> i think cal does a really good job there teaching us. we've had a lot of workshops and seminars about these issues. >> reporter: university of cal campus police confirmed someone reported an incint

. >> i'm jessica aguirre. a nasty intestinal infection that at best will leave you dehydrated and in pain and worst could kill you. in the last hour, the san mateo county health department confirmed two cases of shigella, that brings it to 26 cases and 98 reported cases. one restaurant remains closed and employees being tested. we're joined with more on the new cases. >> reporter: that's right. the employees won't be able to come back until they have clearance from their doctors. the restaurant also has to be cleaned. meanwhile, dozens of people are still sick tonight wondering how this happened. i spoke to one man who is ready to go back to break and is spending his days off suing the owners of this restaurant. >> i'm scared. >> greg mize ner says once he gets his appetite back, he plans to eat at home for a while. >> i'm kind of at the mercy of whether someone had to wash their hands because there was no indication that anything was wrong. >> mize ner says on friday, he ordered a tostada for dinner in downto

i'm jessica aguirre. >>> i'm raj mathai. handcuffs and shackles and red jumpsuits. the so-called drifters are back in town accused of a wild crime spree spanning two states. about 40 minutes ago, they arrived at the marin county jail in san rafael. they were captured in portland last week. one woman and two men will face homicide charges for the shooting death of a canadian backpacker and local yoga teacher. both victims were shot in the bay area with the same gun. nbc bay area mac matthews is is there. what happens next in all of this, mark? >> reporter: probably an arraignment tomorrow at the earliest. the suspects arrived at 5:20 this afternoon. driving up this authorized vehicle only side of the marin county jail. we have video of their arrival at 5:20. authorities bringing them back in a caravan from portland. all three, 24-year-old shawn michael engel, 18-year-old lela scott al good and

. >> i'm jessica aguirre. that new facility at san antonio saah clara valley was supposed to be open a week ago. turner is out and bolt is in. after a series of construction mishaps, delays and public fighting, they picked a new construction company to take over that embattled job. we're live at the hospital site. robert, this new construction company had taken over for turner at another job as well? >> reporter: that's right. they don't know if the pattern is the same. but they do know that this company has experience this taking over a project. of course, that is all much to the relief of county officials. because it has been a very expensive wait trying to get this hospital project going again. officials say the turner divorce could also be costly. as you can see, the site here is still under construction. turner said they left it about 80% to 90% completed, which is true. however, the county officials point out that the last 10% or 20% is wiring and technical things, something that bolt will have to deal w

i'm jessica aguirre. >> and i'm raj maathai. we're tracking a development as we see. it's been active for 92 minutes now and for a week more than all, 100 small quakes in this same area. here's the same. the strongest was a 3.5 magnitude and hit about 90 minutes ago just off 680. no reports of any damage, but a lot of people did feel it. san ramon vale was hit with a cluster of earthquakes last thursday, saturday and sunday, and take a look this. map shows the dozens of quakes that hit the east bay in the past 72 hours. >> and so we have had over 200 events, four of them now bigger than magnitude three and then about -- a little over 40 magnitude two or larger and then over 100 between magnitude one and two. >> there's historical precedence in all of this. the quake over the past ten days has centered on the calivares fault. there on the right side. usgs note, the fleury of small quakes don't necessarily mean a big one is imminent. seismologists say it's seen four other images of earthquake swarms, the last being in 2003 and in that

. >> and i'm jessica aguirre. nbc bay area has learned about a troubling computer search by deputies just hours after he allegedly beat an inmate to death. earlier today the three deputies accused of killing michael tyre were in a santa clara courtroom. it was after the hearing that we learned about the questionable computer searches. robert handa joins us live. might this be damaging? >> that's right. this is a very significant change from what we have been hearing so far about this case and this investigation. not only are the internet searches possibly very revealing but the timing of the searches is extremely important since they were made shortly after the beating death. sources close to the investigation told me about these new discoveries shortly after the three deputies, correctional deputies made a brief court appearance today. the three were in a san jose courtroom for a status hearing, all three are out on bail at $1.5 million each. sources told me investigators seized rodriguez' computer at the onset o

. >> and i'm jessica aguirre. this is happening right across the street from the police station. jean, what are police telling you at this point? >> reporter: well, jessica i'm standing right next to the northern police station and officers say they were getting ready to go out on duty and they heard those multiple shots fired, ten to 15 shots. witnesses areçó saying police quickly got on scene, they say the shooting happened actually at the mcdonald's at golden gate and fillmore, an area crowded with people, lots of diners and people on the street. police say they found one gunshot victim near golden gate and fillmore. the other gunshot victim ran a block away to turk and fillmore where he collapse d and paramedics treated him. i'm told two men in their 20s were shot. i am told they both have multiple gunshot wounds. you're looking at turk and fillmore, where the suspects were and then ran. this happened at about 9:15 where this area would be really busy with people. we're also near the music district in the fillmore where there will be lots of people out on a friday night. th

i'm jessica aguirre. >> and i'm raj mathai. police are trying to determine if the robberies are linked. the latest happened in san leandro, almost three weeks after an identical robbery happened near hebron court. we are joined from the border. and this sounds pretty alarming. >> reporter: we are at arroyo high school which is at the border. and police investigators say they do believe that the victims could have been targeted after taking children to school here in the morning and that the robberies were actually intended to be home invasions. san leandro police say the most recent robbery took place on monday morning here on burkhart avenue where a man was robbed by a group of men at gun point. it was similar to one that took place here on hebron court october 8th. both victims were asian men who dropped off children at the school. both cases involved three to four suspects, described as heavy-set african-americans wearing masks. >> in
