karen. karen: thanks, danielle. breaking overnight. a seriously ill baby is safe this morning after an amber alert overnight, and hospital staff are being credited with helping to identify him. these are live pictures of children's hospital where the 2.5-month-old baby boy is being given emergency medical care. according to state police, an amber alert was activated after his mother tiffany cherry ignored directions to get him to get him emergency help in pennsylvania for severe dehydration. instead of getting him help, police say she took off, was believed to be in the waltham area last night. we're told that hospital staff at children's hospital pieced it together and called boston police. the mother cherry is now in custody. frank: right now a state trooper is recovering after his cruiser was hit by a tractor trailer, the trooper was working a construction detail when the tractor trailer crushed the trooper's s.u.v. on the eastbound side of the pike in newton. the trooper is being treated at mass general. no word on the condition of

karen? karen: thanks, danielle. hurricane patricia is weakening right now hours after crashing into the west coast of mexico. we're getting our first look at the height of that monster storm which made land fall as the strongest hurricane ever recorded. there are reports of flooding and landslides but so far no word of any major damage just yet. officials are wary though saying it's still an extremely dangerous storm. from this satellite image, you can see the storm's eye. hurricane patricia, winds as strong as 200 miles per hour, and up to 20 inches of rain, powers into mexico friday as a category 5 storm. this angry surf hit the vacation area of puerto vallarta where they were boarding up, filling sandbags, streets deserted as thousands of tourists tried to outrun patricia. >> we were evacuated from our hotel this morning for the hurricane. we came to this convention center, and they said it's not a safe place so we're going to the karen: stranded with her family. >> we've been running around trying to find a way

karen: and i'm karen anderson. antoinette is off this morning. hurricane patricia is weakening after making landfall. the first video at the height of that monster storm is just coming in. stormteam 5 meteorologist danielle vollmar is tracking its path. and she joins us now. danielle? danielle: that's right, karen. i was a very strong storm earlier in the week. in fact, the strongest hurricane on record in both the eastern pacific and the atlantic basin but since then, coming inland it has weakened. now a category one hurricane with winds of just 75 miles an hour and gusts up to about 90 miles an hour. it is also moving pretty quickly to the north and east at about 21 miles an hour. now it's already brought a lot of rain for parts of mexico. anywhere from about 10 to 11 inches in spots. and expected in the next 24 hours to bring any with from 8-12 inches in mexico. then it travels north and feeds tropical moisture into texas. this is one area under flash flood watches this morning because of another system that does not need any of the rain. now

"action news" reporter katherine scott is live outside the 22nd police district in philadelphia where the officers are based. >> reporter: that's right matt. the two officers here at the 22nd district were on that fire scene first last night. they tried to make a rescue but in the end it was firefighter whose got that resident out. four people were injured, a firefighter, a resident and two officers from the 22nd district but in the end, none of the injuries were serious. the flames fierce, the smoke heavy in strawberry mansion last night. residents from the 1800 block
