we are geting the latest from ktvu fox 2 news' jana katsuyama. she is live on the scene with lessons learned in trying to relocate some 270 elderly patients. >> reporter: i talked with family members of one patient who said there was some confusion and they didn't know where their relative was. tonight, the lights at the nursing home are back on. but, earlier, for nearly eight hours, the power was out. emergency vehicles were queued up. at one point friday afternoon it was a scramble just finding enough vehicles and evacuation sites getting everyone relocated. >> this is the largest nursing home in the county. 278 beds. >> reporter: fire officials say it was a small fire at the burlingame long term nursing home caused by an overloaded electric panel. but what put these patients on the sidewalk and caused the evacuation was a loss of power in a place where elderly patients depend on electrical devices. >> we had 270 patients here this morning. approximately 70 patients had been relocated to a variety of different spots. >> reporter: we asked wheth

ktvu fox smith got an update but it appears it is spreading. >>reporter: the health officials are getting reports from doctors from patients showing shigella like symptoms, the fever, cramping and diarrhea. the majority of those patients ate at restaurant but we're hearing of the secondary cases, people who didn't athlete but are getting it from those who did. we asked the department could not provide with us an exact count of how many of the hundred 10 cases are secondary cases saying they're talking to all of the patients determining when they got ill and the dining history. this is what we can tell you. those 110 reported cases, 92 are santa clara county residents. 18 live in santa cruz, alameda or san mateo countries. 24 cases came back confirmed to be shigella including a child. because this illness is so contagious and it only takes a few bacteria to get it, the health department today could not stress enough the importance of hand washing, saying it is the number one way to prevept this disease. >> this is not respiratory spread. this is
