let's get the latest with lee goldberg at the weather wall. >> roughly 50 miles off the coast of mexico. this storm peaked at 200 miles per hour sustained winds, not gusts. that makes it the most powerful hurricane ever in the western hemisphere. it became a tropical storm 36 hours ago and ramped to a cat 5 in 24 hours. andrew in 92, 175 miles per hour winds. there is the storm. the core of the storm is close to landfall. you can see the wingspan is 1600 miles. the core is a few hundred miles wide. there is the well-defined eye. since 4:00, it has taken the northeast wobble that was expected by the hurricane center. rather than paralleling the coast it's heading to the coast. that puts it on land the next few hours then it will weaken because of the terrain and eventually by the time we get to tomorrow afternoon it will be a tropical depression. by then a huge storm surge, mudslides, a couple feet of rain. it's to the east here. the worst of the storm in these areas, these places. you see how futurecast has it making landfall this evening and torrential rainfalls across mexico then the

meteorologist lee goldberg is timing it all out. he's over at the weather center with more. >> i like what i see in rob's shot it all, even the visibility from the 3rd base line to right field looks better. rainfall in kansas city has been fairly light. the field isn't soaked. a little slip pery and of course they've had the tarp on the infield. the steadiest rain we saw at 4:00 and 5:00, shifting off to the north and east. hasn't rained much on the west side of town. seems to be weakening. futurecast also showing yes, showers in the area around first pitch but the heaviest definitely shifting east so at worst it's a short delay off the top. probably an on-time start and 54 degrees. this is the western edge of the big rain that's heading our way. rain is trying to come up the coast right now. still a good 12 hours away from the tri-state area. around daybreak in new york city, a little earlier south and west. easily going to be an inch of rain around the area. could even top two inches, especially north and west. the worst of this i

. >> lee goldberg tracking all the scenarios for us, he's at the weather wall. >> lots of challenges to start october. first of all, it's about cooler temperatures and a gusty wind coming in tonight as the weather pattern begins to change. we're down to 63. a north wind gusting at 17. responding to the idea we'll have an on shore wind. coastal wind advisories go through the weekend with moderate coastal flooding a possibility. also a high wind watch as we get into the weekend for the jersey shore. the worse case, wind gusts over 50 miles per hour. not much rain. the cold front went through. more rain will ride along that front. that takes until friday. even though we get rain along the coast. you can trace moisture all the way back into joaquin, which is strengthening. now a category 3 hurricane with winds of 115 miles per hour that will hammer the northwest bahamas. this storm is forecasted to become a category 4 hurricane tomorrow with winds of 140 miles per hour. the window of movement is large, but probably less than a 20% chance it escapes out to sea and the more likely track is
