"news4's" megan mcgrath has more. megan? >> reporter: if you take a look behind me, you see the investigators on the scene. they've been here since about midnight. you can see on the right-hand side there's a group of gtsers there on the sidewalk area and a little further down where the bright light is, they've been paying attention to that spot as well which appears to be a cafe to us. it was about 11:45 when police got word of a shooting. when they arrived they found a man suffering gunshot wounds. i talked to a person living in the area. he didn't want to go on cam rarks but he said he heard several gunshots, around five to seven last night. when the police got here, they found the victim, took him to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. no word of any arrests. no word on the identity of the person killed here. this is the second murder in alexandria this year. back to you. >>> the company's ceo will be the main witness. two representatives from the environmental protection agency will be there as well. volksw

"news4's" megan mcgrath is there now. megan, any progress? >> reporter: we're seeing a bit of an impact. traffic not too bad. this has been going on since tuesday. we're talking about the section between pooksville road and cedar lane. they had a water main burst on tuesday. there was flooding, major lane closures. they have repeated repairs to the pipe itself but they still have to repair the road. apparently they had to take out a larger section of the asphalt. they had hoped to have all the work done by this morning's hour but they even not been able to complete the repairs in time. we have one lane getting by to the left in the inbound direction here right in the area of cedar lane. now, if you're heading outbound in the northbound direction, all the lanes are open. they're making a lot of progress, but we're seeing the lane closures, we've been here since about 4:30. actually they've made tremendous progress in that time filling in the hole with asphalt here. they're working as quickly as they can. they'll reopen the road as soon as they

megan mcgrath has more from the mall. megan? >> reporter: there are concerns about flooding in low-lying levels like the triangle. that's why this levee was built. you can see it behind me. if the national park service decides there's an imminent threat of flooding, what they'll begin to do is snap panels into the groove. the first one will go into this groove. and it will stretch across to 17th street and this will block flood water. it will take them about four hours to snap the wall into place. and we're waiting to hear if. they already have their flood wall up. we were there earlier this morning. you can see the wall in place there. it protects the businesses so if the potomac river starts to leave its banks and flood, it will not go down into the development to where those businesses are, and they're going to leave that wall up until the threat of flooding is over. also some precautions being taken by the national park service. something worth mentioning, they have all their turf fields. they're going to be closed because o

"news4's" megan mcgrath just arrived. meg megan, what do you know? >> reporter: eun, you can see the police tape behind me and the blocked off road. it's been another deadly night. just after 1k shots rang out in the 1500 block southeast. when the police arrived on the scene, they found a man outside shot, shot in the head. he was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. now, there is a shotspotter device around the corner but it's unclear if that device alerted the police to the shooting or if they got a 911 call. in fact, there's very little information being released a that point. no information on a lookout, a possible suspect in this or perhaps a car that may have been involved. now, this has been a very violent year here in the district of columbia. this is the 130th murder in d.c. so far this year and it's just the end of october. last year there were 105 murders. >> thank you, megan. >>> 5:15. the judge threw the book at a man. prince george's county police say he attempted to rob a hotel when the man tried to stop him. he co

"news4's" megan mcgrath live at the scene. megan, what are you hearing? >> reporter: we're hearing that one of the people involved in this accident, the drive ore f that van, he's at an area hospital being treated for what are being termed as serious injuries. now, this all began to unfold at around 11:00 last night on the inner loop of the beltway right near the exit for ritchie marlboro road. now, a fire truck was actually responding to a two-car accident on the beltway. they were on the scene and that's when that fire truck then got involved in an accident. it was hit by a commercial van. the driver of that van had to be taken to the hospital with those serious injuries. still being treated at this hour. none of the firefighters were injured, but their fire truck was banged up pretty well in this collision. they're still trying to piece together the chain of events and who's at fault here. now, for a time the inner loop of the beltway was completely shut down. the good news is for two hours or so they were able to push everything out of the way. the la

"news4's" megan mcgrath is live in alexandria with an area prone to flooding during storms. alexandria always gets hit. >> reporter: good morning. we're at the bottom of king street. this is an area prone to flooding. they know the drill. they know it well and there's going to be preparations taken later today. right now we have light rain, but with all the rain headed our way, there are real concerns about the potential for flooding. what we typically i see is water coming up along king street and all the businesses here along the low lying area. they often are threatened by flooding. and so the sand bags, no doubt, are going to be coming out here as we're excting all of this rain. two systems am nor'easter and hurricane joaquin. take a look at this video. this is from yesterday. a number of spots had flooding. this is in hamilton station. a big hole opened up in the middle of that road that had to be shut down. repair work needed to be done there. there was also a neighborhood in the leesburg area where several feet of water went rushing into homes there. things got absolu

megan mcgrath has more on what ok so long. >> reporter: the tractor-trailer is no longer in the road. it has been hauled away in pieces. in fact, you can still see a portion of the trailer down below on the right-hand side of the road. the accident itself happened late last night. a rig jackknifed on the inner loop after the 270 split and before old georgetown road. normally, this sort of thing wouldn't take too long to clean up. in this case, the axle of a truck broke and the floor of the trailer cracked and separated. that really complicated things. they couldn't just hook up the truck to a wrecker and haul it away. they had to bring in crews. they have large, circular saws and cut up the trailer so it could be taken from the scene. traffic squeezed by to the right for the start of rush-hour causing delays. at this point, everything is clear. we just have the one piece of the trailer along the side of the road and traffic is moving at speed. >> long the inner loop, megan mcgrath, news 4. >>> breezy and mild this afternoon with temperatures currently in the 60s and 70s. washington at

. >>> i'm megan mcgrath at ronald reagan airport where crews have spent the day mopping up a jet fuel spill. they have equipment on the scene including the absorbent booms that are sucking up the jet fuel floating across the surface of the water. this all began to unfold last night. an employee here at the airport, they smelled a strange odor. when others came to investigate that's when they saw the sheen of jet fuel on the water right here along the south side of the airport. they realized they had a jet fuel spill on their hand and they believe it's come from a storage container that's located nearby. early on this morning they were able to stop that leak and stop the jet fuel from continuing to go into the water, but they have quite a clean up on their hands. a spokesperson with the airport says worst-case scenario between 7900 and 9,000 gallons of fuel leaked from that storage container. however, that's not to say that all of that went into the water. in fact, they don't believe that all of it went into the water. in terms of the environmental impact, they think it's minimal. it l

"news4's" megan mcgrath is there. megan, what have we learned? >> reporter: you can see behind me belle pre lane is still closed. we have police tape across both ends of this short street here. police have started to pack up some of their equipment. so it looks look it may not be too much longer before they wrap things up at the scene. the investigation ongoing. the search for the person who fired these deadly shots ongoing. it was a little before mind around 11:45 when the report came in. the 911 call, report of a shooting. when officers arrived on the scene, they found a man suffering gunshot wounds. he was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead. no word on the identity of the victim here and no lookout as of yet for the suspect. an ongoing active investigation, although it looks like they may open the street in just a little while from now. but, of course, they're looking for witnesses. anyone who has information. if you saw something suspicious, anyone leaving the area right around midnight or so, yo ire asking to call alexandria

"news4's" megan mcgrath with preparations under way. good morning, megan. >> reporter: good morning, guys we have light rain falling in alexandria. nothing too extreme. this is an area prone to flooding. i'm down here at the bottom of king street and what we normally see is water coming right up here on king street. we have a number of businesses that are in this low lying area, and what we're expecting to see are these businesses getting ready. they'll be bringing out the sandbags. putting them up in front of the doors to make sure water doesn't get inside the business should we see the flooding that is possibly heading our way. two systems as you mentioned. we've got a nor'easter that's going to bring potentially a lot of rain and everyone is keeps a close eye on hurricane joaquin to see exactly where that's going to land and how much rain we'll get with that. we had trouble yesterday. take a look at this video. lots of rain falling in loudoun county we had flooding issues there. this is hamilton station road looking out. the floodwat

megan mcgrath, live in alexandria. you spoke with some of the people that were there. >> we talked to quite a few people. this is now a case of murder. the man who was taken to the hospital early this morning has died. you can see behind me here where one of the bullets ended up just to the right of this entrance to the apartment complex here on bell freeway. we spoke to a number of folks who live in the area. they say a little bit before midnight, they heard a burst of gunfire. >> the cme scene for himself. >> reporter: anthony giuliani say he nearly became a victim too. >> i said, honey, there is gunshots, gunshots. he slowed down. i said, no, we have to go. that's when the car got hit by the bullet. then, we kept going. he sped off at that moment. >> the gun fire rang out just before midnight on bellcreek way in alexandria. residents say they heard several shots. >> it just went on and on and on. the victim was taken to the hospital where he died. investigators worked through the night collecting evidence. they foun

. >>> i'm megan mcgrath live on the outside side of the suitland parkway. early this morning a tractor trailer plunged off that beltway overpass falling on to the lanes below. the driver was killed. traffic was snarled for hours. the tractor trailer could be seen laying on its side on eastbound suitland parkway. but this was just the truck's resting place. it actually fell off an overpass on the outer loop of the beltway and landed on the lanes below. these nsnapshots were take bin first responders. it's unclear why he lost control. the outbound suitland parkway was closed for hours. >> we detoured around it, went a different way into the city. so, happens. >> we got rained out. >> have to change your route? >> yeah. >> you can see that we've been allowed closer to the scene where the accident actually occurred here. that is the cab of the truck. you can see all of the damage. there the force of the impact. we have, of course, heavy equipment moving through the area as the cleanup continues. outbound suitland parkway, all of the lanes are still closed becau

. >> let's get to megan mcgrath. what do you see? >> you see all of the southbound lanes of the suitland parkway are still closed. close at forestville road. that's going to be the detour this morning. it happened a little before 6:00 this morning. a tractor trailer traveling on the outer loop of the beltway. the driver if whatever republican lost control. that rig came off of the beltway as it crosses over suitland parkway and the truck actually crashed down onto the lanes of the suitland park way. the driver was killed. now, we've been going back and forth in terms of the inbound side of suitland parkway. they would open lanes. they had to close them again because they discovered a fuel spill. they have reopened again now, so we do have some traffic headed in the inbound direction of suitland parkway, so that's going to help out folks who are traveling into d.c. but you might see some slowdowns in that direction. this is going go here for a while yet. we have a lot of emergency crews here on the scene. so if you take the outbound s

. >> i'm megan mcgrath live outside the leila lounge in the union market area northeast where a deadly stabbing happened overnight. just a short time ago, police released the name of the victim. he is 19-year-old eric jones of clinton, maryland. the killer is still on the loose. the old union market is a busy place early in the morning as meat and produce wholesalers fill their order. overnight, there was a very different vibe on moore street and a large police presence following a deadly stabbing at the leila lounge. for philip that works at the gas station behind the club, the violence is a bit close for comfort. >> it can get out of hand. >> it was just after 1:00 a.m. there was some kind of an altercation inside the club and a man was stabbed. an employee says he performed cpr until police arrived and took over but the victim died. there are surveillance cameras at the club that could help investigators piece together what happened and who is responsible. life-long resident, wallace kirby, says the standing is just a part of a larger city-wide problem. >> we in a crisis here. it is

. >> i'm megan mcgrath, live in arlington, where there have been nine sexual assaults since july. police don't necessarily think the same person is responsible. the suspect description is similar in some of the cases and it's totally different in others. but it's certainly an alarming trend. >> the latest incident happened in the 1800 block of north scott street in rosalind. the victim parted ways with her friends and was walking home around 2:30 in the morning when a man grabbed her from behind, threw her into the bushes. and implying he had a knife began to touch her. the 23-year-old got away without serious injury, but the encounter is part of an alarming pattern. nine women have been attacked in a similar way since july. >> most of the time, they're walking alone, not very aware of their surroundings. have been under the influence of alcohol and our subjects are using the cover of the night to attack them. >> women we spoke to say they normally feel safe in arlington, but find the string of assaults disturbing. >> i wouldn't expect that. but i need to watch out. >> you never k

. >>> i'm megan mcgrath live in gaithersburg where police are searching for a kill who are shot a man to death in the alley between the two shopping centers that you see behind me here in thegate urs berg area. the victim is 21-year-old de'ondre smith. police are working on a number of leads and don't feel there's a threat to the larger community. but they won't say much more beyond that. the shooting happened in the alley between the montgomery village plaza and montgomery village crossing shopping center across from lake forest mall in gaithersburg. it was a little before 6:00 last night. there were a lot of people in the area. police talked to a number of witnesses but they think that there are more people out there who saw this happen. who may have information and they want those people to come forward. >> this was a very busy time and location last night. they believe there are more people out there that may have seen something and may be discounting what they saw. investigators are asking anyone who was here last night, saw something and who hasn't spoken with an investigator to
