the officer -- identified by the richland county sheriff's department as deputy ben fields -- declined to be interviewed pending an investigation. the sheriff fully understands the seriousness of this incident, and he will address this again once the investigation is completed. according to the sheriff's office, it was only after the student refused to leave the classroom that the officer was called in. on facebook and on twitter, the video was trending with the hashtag, #assaultatspringvalleyhigh. the aclu and the richland two black parents association are condemning the incident, calling it "egregious" and "unacceptable," school officials say they are working with the sheriff's department to investigate. the district's superintendent released a statement, saying quote-- "student safety is and always will be the district's top priority. the district will not tolerate any actions that jeopardize the safety of our students..."
