activity is in the sierra nevada heading down toward the southern sierra and anywhere from .09 in sacramento, .2 in south lake and napa picked up .2-inch of rain throughout the early morning hours. lots of cloud cover. the wind remains and the shower and thunderstorm activity pressing southward. you can see bakersfield looking at a few lightning strikes. light rain and scattered showers into southern california. we remain quiet, but the traffic, boy, with the 15th-named tropical storm here, it's quite active. 45 miles an hour with the tropical storm. this will not hit the island chain but will bring heavy rain to the big island and then move off to the east as it weakens. other side of the country, still hurricane joaquin weakens as it moves over bermuda, but it is still pumping tropical moisture into the carolinas. linds at 115 miles an hour. you can see as it pushes over bermuda, they will have some big-time flooding, but really nothing like what has happened in the carolinas where they picked up anywhere are 15 to 20 inches since thursday. they were forecasting this, this one in 500 year

police say dianne thatcher turned up in her sierra nevada college dorm. her car was found abandoned last week. she says a man helped her when her car got a flat tire and she' s been with him since then. she says her cell phone died so she couldn' t call family. new this morning, a nurse is facing charges accusing of stealing painkillers from her patients at a hingham nursing home. police say she' d been replacing them with tylenol, water or mouthwash. cindy martin was fired from the queen anne' s nursing home back in june. police say some of the elderly patients might not have been able to communicate that they were in pain because of the dust of not getting the drugs she was supposed to have administered. martin was allegedly working at another facility when she was arrested. emily: new plans to shutdown the pilgrim nuclear power plant are causing concerns in plymouth. today town selectmen will meet discuss the economic impact on the region. it comes after pilgrim' s parent company, entergy, announced it would close the plant by june 2019, if not sooner.

as you take a look at the sierra nevada area in the foothills we are getting strong thunderstorms developing and they are dumping pretty heavy rain that. flash flood warning is going until 10:30 and 11:00 a.m. from those areas, recently burned area particularly at risk. from our emeryville camera the clouds are stacked up. scattered shower chance today, isolated thunder still possible. mild and mostly sunny for sunday. satellite radar shows the system is heading off to the east and we do have that cold front coming in. the problem with this cold front is it's limited in moisture compared to the system that had passed through just yesterday. here is what's going to happen. so 9:00 this morning as you get going with your day most of the bay area is looking at cloud cover, could be a few showers around ukiah, cloverdale and santa rosa, could be an isolated thunderstorm. a few showers popping up around 11:00 a.m. as that front tries to come through even though it's falling apart. we will keep that in the forecast through the early afternoon hours as the sun starts to break through that does dest
