this morning he had a very interesting meeting with real true conservatives, thomas massie, steve king. they emerged from that meeting and all pretty much said they were open to doing business with ryan because they viewed it as somebody who would operate differently than john boehner, would be more willing to allow the leadership to be in communication with the different committees and these different caucus groups. it was definitely a good week for paul ryan. he might get up to 240 votes on the house floor. tying it back to benghazi i was fascinated. back in may of 2014 when john boehner put forward the benghazi select committee he didn't really do it. it was seen as red plaet. the reason why he didn't want to do it was he thought it would allow colleagues to overreach, if you will, on some things. last night that came to fruition. i will be interested to see whether he will try to get away from it. >> hope and change for the house gop. >> thank you very much. >> that brings us to today's bing pulse question for you to answer. based on what you have seen do you think this was a good

i want to touch on something my frienfriend steve king brought . i know there's a lot of talk about how we need to have reform and people being released from prism, but as someone who has worked with the system, i have prosecutor, i've been a judge. i've been court appointed to defend, and isn't it true that some people are actually plead for nonviolent offenses do so as part of a plea agreement where the prosecutor drops a gun charge or some charge of violence in order to get a plea in the case and a lesser sentence? haven't you seen that happen? >> i've seen that happen. >> so that's why for so many like me who is a former judge who saw those kind of plea agreement take place, even though i was in the stateside, it's shocking to see people come from the outside and say, this wasn't a fair sentence, without really considering what could have been pursued and what was a transaction, an agreement between the prosecutor and defense attorney that the judge consider all the circumstances and came down on the side of the agreement. i want to touch on so

even steve king, that firebrand conservative from iowa, who's such an outspoken critic of the establishment, he voted for paul ryan. a lot of tea party members are trying to get off on the right foot by voting for paul ryan. >> let's listen. >> jeff, we thought the moment had come, but john boehner's still waiting. i think the roll was done, though, right? the roll call's done. >> reporter: the roll call is done, carol. he was voted by only nine republicans. there are 247 republicans in the house conference. only nine republicans voted for someone other than paul ryan, so he really is winning the overwhelming majority here. they're doing some bookkeeping there, tallying everything up. this is a constitutional office. the speaker of the house is voted on by both sides. of course, democrats voted for nancy pelosi. that's very pro forma. they always put their own leader up. republicans almost unanimously, with the exception of nine, voted for paul ryan as speaker. they're almost finishing the paperwork here. he will be named speaker and speak, you know, coming up in the next several minutes he

king of iowa and tim huelskamp of kansas. so, he's really trying to make over pictu overtures to the conference who can give him headaches on the debt limit issue and funding the government. i think from the folks i've talked to, ryan will have a lot of political capital coming out of the gate. there is a rallying cry through the house gop conference that it's been too chaotic for too long. let's get behind a guy who, by all means, is by far and away, the smartest kid in the room, we should trust him. so, he should be okay with the debt limit coming on november 3rd. john boehner will probably help him out. the big question is the budget on december 11th. remember, he is negotiating under the confines of the ryan/murray cap, a bipartisan deal he put forward two years ago. not all conservatives like that, so he'll have to figure out a way to placate those conservatives, but also get a budget forward so the government doesn't shut down the first month on his watch, jose. >> it's a big deal coming up. let's see how that turns out
