"labor day weekend is when the wind storm rolled through town and the south end of town is what really caught the brunt of the storm and here at beerman park we found out after the fact that the shelter that was here was unfortunately not one that was covered under our insurance policy." the 2015 labor day weekend storm destroyed or damaged much of the campground including that shelter. community leaders say the grant opportunity offer r w hope for rebuilding the park facilities. kurt peterson "simco approached us in june of thisyear about the availabity of a lowe grant of $20,000 so we thought this is an opportunity that we could rebuild this park so we jumped on it." the community was awared the $20,000 keep america beautiful/lowe's com

"eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer joins us now, out in willow grove where the susan g. komen three day for the cure kicks up. we know it is a chilly start, we see your coat. >> it is a little chilly, little rainy, leg windy. you know what? it really can't compare to the festivities that are ahead this weekend as you said the three day, they come to honor, they come to remember, they come to walk. 60 miles, three days over a thousand participant, and 300 volunteers. so this is really a widespread event. it start here in willow grove. festivities actually kick off right behind me at 7:00 this morning. and then it goes straight through sunday, where it ends up in the navy yard. so they are making their way, through the city of philadelphia, lot of cheering sections along the way. but as i mentioned, it is all about the women and the men stepping up and making huge difference in the fight to end breast cancer. i'm joined by quite a few folks doing their part here this morning. i just love this crew. i love the tutu's, i can't wait to show you the komen manny's? just a s fir

it's the annual susan g. komen's walk for the cur. jesse gary is there. jesse, how is the rain affecting the turnout? >> reporter: to quote with one of the organizers of the walk -- with a southern accent, i might add -- "y'all people are tough. you don't let the weather bother you." so the turnout is similar to what it's been in the previous years. we're standing at what is called a cheering station and although the cheering station has moved off camera -- way to go, ladies, high five. there you go. that's what we mean. here's the cheering station. they went to refill. they're providing candy to give the ladies energy as they walk by. this is one of the cheering stations that are in place along the route to help the walkers soldier through is. >> seriously? it's really wet. really wet. but we're out here for a good cause and it's fun. kind of crazy, kind of fun. >> jen was one of the hundreds of walkers we found walking through the wet this morning. the three day walk for the cure started at 7:00 a.m. each step raises funds to fight and ultimately cure b
