in the course of hearing, we heard that it had been determined by abdelhamid abaaoud and he was going to be an operative in france or another european country. this was foiled by the intelligence services of france and abdelhamid abaaoud seems to be involved in four of the cases which we foiled. this would all have involved action perpetrated by european jihadists, who would be sent to france to perpetrate the act. once again, it is really up to the prosecutor, francois hollande to give details of this. i would just like to say that europe must otherwise itself and to defend itself against this threat. tomorrow, i will be with the minister of justice and we will be asking all the ministers of justice to make sure that europe urgently puts in place a pan european plan to reinforce external frontiers and also to coordinate in a more efficient way a strategy of arms. france has been asking for this for more than 18 monthsnessently. the p.n.r. project has been discussed by the consist as you will of europe, the european parliament and the commission, bub this has not gone fast enough, and

two hours by the ringleader here abdelhamid abaaoud. those suggest he returned to the crime scenes at the restaurants, the concert hall just down the street from me here while investigators were still on the scene intervening at the theater. this it ringleader was killed last week during a police raid in a paris suburb. i have terrorism analyst paul cruickshank, who is now in washington, but was here through it all as this was unfolding in paris. and first, paul, to you, i said this word earlier, the audacity, the brazenness that abdelhamid abaaoud would return after the bloodshed when reporters from cnn were reporting on this down the street, investigators were on the scene, why? >> brooke, it's an extraordinary revelation he returned to the scene of the crime that he went back to the 10th and 11th that he went back to the concert hall that night just a few hours after the attack. one possibility is that he returned there to film footage of the aftermath of the attack for propaganda purposes. there is a video, which was put isis that s

abaaoud. >> the big question is where is abdelhamid abaaoud. certainly the police, one would think if he had in fact either been arrested or killed in that operation, then the authorities would be broadcasting that fact. they've been very quiet and so the big question now is whether this raid, which we're told was initiated after intelligence reports were gleaned suggesting that abdelhamid abaaoud was in the apartment in saint denis, whether in fact he was neutralized during that operation. so far, of those who died and were arrested, only one name has been released. french media are reporting that the young woman who blew herself up with an explosive vest was a cousin of abdelhamid abaaoud, which does suggest obviously that we're getting pretty close now and that the police are closing the net. if she was in the apartment, the cousin of this wanted man, however, we don't know whether he was found, obviously, the key next day is going to be the interrogation of those suspects who were captured during the raid and whether the police and intellig

so we will see yet if abdelhamid abaaoud is, indeed there in saint-denis. richard engel who has been up all night covering this for us and will continue through the day. thank you, richard. mean time those heightened fears of terrorism forced two paris-bound u.s. flights to be diverted after they got bomb threats last night. air france says one flight was from los angeles international. it landed in salt lake city. another from washington dulles was diverted to halifax, nova scotia. the airline says the threats were received by phone after takeoff. one passenger, who departed from l.a.x., tells nbc news about two hours after takeoff flight attendants began grabbing plates, and announced the plane was making an emergency landing. after landing in salt lake city, he says buses arrived to take passengers to another location to be interviewed. the fbi has since released a statement saying there is no evidence right now to suggest the threats were credible. but they say, they're working to determine their origin. >>> and still ahead on "way too early," we contin

abdelhamid abaaoud is dead. the man believed to be the planner, the architect of friday's attack that stole the lives of 129 people here in paris, killed. french officials say prints from his hands and feet confirmed that he died in the stunning raid in the suburb of saint-denis yesterday. his body riddled with bullets before he could carry out another act of terror. french officials have linked him to at least four foiled plots in europe this year. and at this moment, investigators are tracing links to several more known jihadists. this news comes as yet another attacker, salah abdeslam, is still on the loose this morning. he was last seen on the road to belgium. today new raids in belgium, where so much of the planning and organizing for these paris attacks happened. as i said, so much news to go over today. the major development, the death of the planner, abdelhamid abaaoud. we'll turn to cnn diplomatic editor nic robertson for more on this. nic? >> reporter: well, we know that he's been identified through fo
