let's zoom in at northern delaware, chester county, delaware county, salem, gloucester, camden counties through the philadelphia area, lower montgomery county and bucks counties, we could have isolated areas with a little bit more snowfall moving in, especially once we start to see that heavy snow overnight and early tomorrow morning, so that will be accumulating quickly. by the time it's all done, that's what these totals will be. parts of berks county, into the lehigh valley, upper bucks county, 12 to 17 inches possibly. other parts of the lehigh valley, eight to 12 inches, four to eight closer to the poconos, so we'll be watching up near there. for areas in interior new jersey, atlantic county, cumberland county, kent county, delaware, eight to 12 inches also and higher amounts farther to the north of that. closer to the shore, that's where we need to watch that rain/snow line, so we expect about four to eight inches of snow, but again any change over to rain or mixing that will occur will be lowering these numbers here. we'll be watching that closely through tonight and into the day

are in delaware. describe what it's like being in stormforce. >> reporter: windy. that's it. you can feel you get pulled across. there's a lot of things going on here. i'm getting texts who said they can't work on secondary roads yet because the primary roads, the drifts are blowing back on to the road immediately after they plow them. they can't get on there. what we see at the front of stormforce 10 here as ray and i head northbound route 13, coming into the town's end area. this is the road. hard to see under the lights there, but look at the snow coming right at us, and we might have been driving through the field. feels like we're in a field. you can't see the lanes. you can see where tracks have been from other vehicles, only four-wheel drive vehicles, not a lot of sedans out here. we saw a bunch in dover and a few people stuck in snow banks. we don't have that now. that's a good thing as we head up towards the middletown area, which as karen and bill said, got pounded with a lot of snow. as you

delaware, you're going to get all snow in northern delaware, some of the heaviest amounts, 6:00 a.m. to noon, and the strongest winds, of course, will be occurring farther to the south. in philadelphia itself, 10 to 14 inches, heaviest snow 3:00 a.m. to noon. you want to watch out for blowing snow, low visibility. could even be thunder snow with this storm, and one of the places that could happen is in salem and gloucester counties. we're going to get some of the biggest snow totals. ten to 14 in much of burlington county. change to rain would limit the snow totals a bit. if that happens, heaviest snow 4:00 a.m. to noon. then as we go into the shore, less snow as you get into extreme southern delaware, but it should start and end as snow. power outages are most likely here because the character of the snow is going to be close to freezing. it's going to be heavy, wet stuff, and the farther inland you are in atlantic county, better chance you have of some of those power outages. then also snow expected in delaware county, chester county, more snow as you get closer to the philadelphia

we've seen a break in the precipitation for about an hour and a half in delaware along delaware bay into south jersey. that has changed. the snow, the rain, it's back. it's going to continue for most of the rest of the day. you can see some thinning in and around the philadelphia area, and delaware county and into chester county, but heavy snowfall in allentown, trenton, and interior new jersey and central delaware rights now. add to that gusty winds. more than 40 miles per hour. in fact, since we have been on at 4:00 this morning, the winds have stayed above 40 miles per hour. the gusts for philadelphia, wilmington, and wildwood now 53 miles per hour gusts. our future wind gust model shows potential for 50-60, 70 miles per hour winds in the morning. that's still the case. potential for 0 miles per hour gusts in cape may. a messy day today, and, of course, more snow piling up as well. what to expect, meteorologist karen thomas is standing by. >> don't be lulled into false sense of security if it's not snowing where you are right now simply because we do have some of the dry slots in the

there you see the snow moving into delaware, south jersey and delaware by 11:00 p.m. now we're seeing a rain snow line moving in. the models are picking up on a track shift, not much but enough to move the rain/snow line inland. 7:00 a.m. saturday still seeing snow, 2:00 p.m., still snow. it's going to be windy. then you see the transition over the rain for south jersey and delaware. shore concerns will be winds on shore, 60-mile-per-hour gusts. we're looking at flooding concerns. here's the snow forecast, could see 14 inches or more through newcastle, chester county, 10 or more around philadelphia and the higher totals could be getting pushed north and west now. what we do know, heavy areas of snow, coastal flooding major to moderate, blowing snow. new tonight at 11:00, we're seeing the rain/snow line in new jersey and delaware. wasn't there before. higher totals north and west. we'll be tweaking that tomorrow. what we'll be watching is the rain/snow line and any change in the track that would then dictate where the rain/snow line is to work hand in hand. tonight, 25

so there's your 14 to 18 inches, generally delaware county, southern chester county, northern delaware. 14 to 18 inches. 10 to 14 inches up towards the philadelphia area and towards the trenton area and northern burlington county. mostly clear overnight tonight, cold, 22 for the low in philadelphia, 15 north and west. during the day tomorrow, the clouds increase. the snow does not come until well after 6:00. the afternoon rush will not be affected by snow. in the evening it starts in delaware, and then it will stick immediately on untreated surfaces, but i assume everybody's out there treating those surfaces right now. so the first of the snow will be tolerated. so the first alert goes through saturday, saturday night, then on sunday the snow ends early. then it becomes windy. monday is a windy and cold day. look at that, down into the teens in the morning. so the snow's not going to immediately melt. we'll have some warmer weather later on during next week to melt some of it, but if you get that amount of snow, it's going to hang around for a while. >> the closer to the storm, better

to at the shore in southern delaware came in earlier. take a look what's going on, the heaviest snow right now over portions of central and eastern virginia. heavy snow falling in west virginia as well are as well, you can see how far this goes, if this storm took a sharp right and move out to sea, you'd get the cut-off. it's going to to transfer it's energy to a coastal low and really strain end as we head through the overnight hours throwing big bands of snow back into the delaware valley. here's your blizzard warning, this going into effect tonight and continues until 10:00 sunday morning. and this is really for the entire region. notice anything shaded in red is a blizzard warning, you. you may notice why is cape may county not in red. doesn't look like we'll have enough snow at the height of the wind to really blow and drift like that. a high wind warning in a winter storm warning for those spots the rest of region. at blizzard warning and it goes until sunday morning. again, here are our snow amounts and we've shifted all of this n

she's talking about the delaware beaches. i wanted to show you we've been trying to get back on to the barrier islands on our journey. this big bridge we know it well, this is to go over to ocean ci city. they have cones up they shut this one down we're right now at the somers point circle. i think they took the circle out. we're at the circle liquor store. we still call it circle. circle liquor store ocean city is a dry town. we talk with the fire official over there. massive flooding downtown. major problems they're trying to keep people -- if you're on, you can't get off right now. might be some back roads if you know them tweet them to me i'd like to get on but i know that avalon boulevard, wildwood all those entrance ways all the major cause way entrance ways in they've all been shut down that's how bad the flooding because of this. this is not the ocean it's the bay side. now, the good news i just talk to the mayor here in somers point. he said the tighter is going out. but they have so much flooding i just showed down

snow fell fast across delaware. in a flash roads were covered and salt truck hit the roads. >> we're selling salt and shovels earlier. we ran out. that's a blessing. >> reporter: in wilmington, muhammed's store weathered the storm and stayed open late. he passed time during the lull on his haver board. >> don't matter blizzard or storm 12 feet, 10 feet, 2 feet we're open. >> they were open for people getting last minute searches. >> picked up some chips, eggs and milk. >> i'm coming out here honestly because i'm trying to do my ha hair. i'm trying to get bees wax while i'm sitting in the house. i'll get bees wax and lee twist my dreads. >> reporter: earlier in the day people tried to avoid messy roads by stocking up early but not for food. >> four bottles of red and a bottle of white. >> stocking up on alcohol. this says it all. >> my husband big john deere snowblower and the girls are going to drink while we watch him do that. >> that's a good point. >> and then i'll give him hot chocolate. >> reporter: hot chocola

maybe a little bit of light snow in southern delaware. the snow really starts friday night, later out friday night, the heavier that snow will get and by saturday morning it should be snowing pretty hard. there may be a mixture or a little bit of rain at the shore, but all day saturday is snowing. this is a long-lasting thing friday night, let's say about 9:00 through saturday night 9:00 into sunday morning. that's a long-lasting storm and the winds, of course, will be a part of it as well. it looks like it's going to be all snow north and west of philadelphia, a lot of snow but also some mixing with sleet and even rain during the day on saturday. from philadelphia down through central delaware and much of south jersey and the snow changing to rain farther to the south. how much snow? generally 10 inches plus in the philadelphia area. 14 inches or more from wilmington into chester county down toward northern delaware and parts of south jersey with lesser amounts toward the shore. we'll get more specific on who's getting what and when with

king of prussia 11.6 and port penn, delaware 11.1. nothing official from the airport just yet but we did previous report from philadelphia and we had about 10 to 12-inches. so we're thinking we're around a foot at the airport. look at this. we had a little bit of a dry slot working into philadelphia because of a gravity wave that's a difference in the atmosphere and the ocean. tries to reach equilibrium we pick up dry air now it's filling back in. look at the wind blowing outside our studios gusting to 35, 40 miles an hour at times. we're sustain at 2028 miles an hour. the wind chill is only 10. you can see ultimate doppler here come the snow. it's filling back in. so if you had temporary lull, the snow is coming back. that dry slot is filling in and the snow rates will be picking up. visibility will be reduced to about half mile in philadelphia within the next hour or so. and winds still very gusty. 43 miles an hour gusts in wilmington. gusting to 36 in wrightstown. 37 miles an hour gusts in philadelphia. late fluffy snow temperature

. >> reporter: in radnor, delaware, the building looks luke a shelter. people were home for days without heat. no place to charge phones or connect with the outside world. the township is gearing up again in case. >> we have tree crews on stand by because here in radnor we have a lot trees. we'll be ready to go, as limbs come down, crews to be able to come in to remove any trees that have fallen. >> reporter: the township plans for the worst and says, despite some improvement like newer suvs for the police and stronger electrical wires it can't predict everything. in 2014 the building housed dozens and they hope they don't have to do it again but they'll be ready. >> residents had issues with being able to shower that week. we had that available to residents. >> reporter: i did speak with one man who was without power three, four days. they were able to find a relative to stay at their house. but the problem is roads and trees were down in the way so they had to tough it out at home. hear from him tonight at 5:00. deanna durante, nbc 10 news. >> somethin

in southern delaware and extreme south jersey. in northern delaware we have the blue, more than six inches of snow and as we head toward philadelphia we're six inches in many areas. and of course more as you go farther to the north. the lehigh valley uncle buck, upper montgomery we're 10 inches or more. we've gotten rid of the areas with the pink which was 18 inches or more. we saw that last night. we have a couple of systems. here is a weak one in eastern pennsylvania now, had a little bit of snow on the radar. as it's fallen apart, this has not. got some rain showers ahead of snow showers as the cold front moves through. that's what we're going to be watching for tomorrow. we go through the night tonight, temperatures dropping through the freezing mark into the 20s in some areas by daybreak. there it is, 7:00 a.m. down to 23 degrees in allentown, 24 in doylestown. and then during the day as you can see, temperatures are above freezing. possible rain showers. in new jersey, some possible mix rain and snow. possible snow showers.

locally we're still dry, but again delaware will be seeing the first rainfall from this in just about a couple hours, if not earlier. here's a look at future weather right now, temperatures still mild, still around 50 degrees for part of the area, then we go into 7:00, 8:00, there you see rain approaching from the south. this is going to be mostly on the lighter side, but then we go into 9:00, 10:00, more rain moving up into new jersey, possibly the philadelphia area by 9:00 p.m. temperatures here still in mostly the mid 40s where we're seeing that rain, and some of this rain will be getting heavier. and now we're going into 11:00, more widespread rainfall, south jersey and delaware seeing some of the heaviest rain out of the system, then it will be spreading north and west. notice the poconos, temperatures there keep dropping, even allentown. we're going to watch the temperatures closely tonight, because again we could start to see some of this precip change over to wet snow in areas farther north and west like the poconos, potentially areas like allentown if the temperature there dr
