a virginia beach veteran has taken on a new role in the resort city. city counil named dave hansen the new city manager tonight. they say he has spent ten years working for the city, and he had a 30-year military career. hansen takes over for former city manager james spore. he retired last month after 24-years with virginia beach. new information about a couple of planned projects in virginia beach. tonight, city council planned to discuss a proposal for the 15th street pier. mayor will sessoms says leaders will be working with the developers and the public to make it happen -- sessoms on 15th street pier proposal - clip 48 about that do i know if the numbers will work yet? i don't. private group has asked to re-develop the area between 14th and 16th streets at the oceanfront. we could see a new pier, hotel, restaurants, and more parking. it would cost 245-million. the mayor also discussed plans for a fitness park at the oceanfront. city council did not approve the project when they voted on it earlier telling people not to give up hope. feeds fitness

on a rain-soaked new year's eve - virginia beach's animal enforcement unit - moved more than 100 hogs they said were living in deplorable conditions. according to police, they were on an illegal farm on city property off salem road. investigators told 10 on your side friday that some of the animals did not have adequate feed, water, or shelter. that their waste wasn't managed properly. and that at least one dead animal was left unburied in the area. police charged 64 year old gary morris senior with animal cruelty, and inadequate care. they connection with the unburied animal. morris' daughter told 10 on your side that morris' wife was sick in the hospital and passed away right around the time this happened. she said he had to choose between taking care of the animals or being with his wife. while she said the animals' pens were wet from the rain, she denied they were in "deplorable" conditions, as police had said. the animal enforcement unit said the conditions did not occur overnight or even over a week. according to morris' daughter, he was renting the land from a friend and didn't

two virginia men have been charges. the department of justice says one man was taken into custody at richmond international airport. authorities say he was heading to syria. a second man allegedly drove him to the airport. both have been living in woodbridge virginia. the man arrested at the airport is a u.s. citizen -- and is accused of attempting to provide materials and resources to a terror organization. the other -- originally from assisting. in newport news -- police arrested a man who has been wanted for assault charges since november. 20-year-old keishon robinson was wanted in suffolk for domestic assault. police say he )s also being investigated in connection to recent commercial robberies in the area. right now robinson is being held without bond in newport news city jail. in virginia beach -- republican state delegate scott taylor has announced his run for congress -- this comes just days after congressman scott rigell made it taylor discussed his plans to run and collected signatures this afternoon at keagan
