roz plater, abc 7 news. alison: an ironic chain of events in the district today. to news crew fell victim thieves as they were covering a new crime-fighting effort. city leaders announce a robbery task force. just 100 feet away, a thief smashed the window of an abc 7 news car and stole equipment. edurs earlier, a robber slash on a metro station near georgia avenue. neighborhoods are on edge. these people often target several victims in a short time. that is why the work of the robbery intervention task force is so important. alison: the task force looks to bring law enforcement together and encourage anyone with information to come forward. leon: right now, metro is trying to figure out how two cars that separated on the green line this morning. they were part of a six car train leaving navy yard. they were about 18 inches apart from each other when the train stopped. nobody was injured. the cars were reattached until they got to the station, then the train was taken out of service. right now, people are checking tickets very closely. are you the new millionaire?

roz plater, abc 7 news. d.c.'s circular buses will resume limited service tomorrow, from noon until 5:00. they will operate on the georgetown, union station, and adams morgan, mcpherson square routes. jonathan: after being open most of the day, gw parkway is closing for the night. kimberly suiters has that in what else she is sitting on the roads. it's not a pretty picture. kimberly: this is the reason for the shutdown. if you are on the side streets, you risk hitting a pole or a car. if you were on the gw parkway, see that snow bank? the national park service is that could launch you, and below is the icy potomac river. to the left are the southbound lanes. so they have shut down gw parkway northbound and they will let the snow plows all the work all night long. there will be a lot of us waiting on those plows. most side roads are so snowy, two lanes are one lane streets, and it's best to allow the plows and heavy machinery to clear the roads. sharing the pavement is difficult. it in groceries, going sledding, or

roz plater has more. what is going on there? roz: we just got word from police in the last minute they declared this safe. they are breaking down this area that they had roped off. look here. this is third place, this happened midway the block in backyard of a home. we are told a homeowner found what was thought to be a military ordnance in the backyard. about noon or 12:30 today. they brought in about 20 minutes ago military officers to take look at it. and just now again we have been told that this was declared safe. they did, however, before this evacuate eight homes or so. they had told other neighbors at the end i talked to a woman home with her children not to go in the backyard. but that will be lifted and the people will get back home. we have no idea what kind of ordnance or how it got there or where it came from. we hope to get answers about that as this goes on. in the meantime now good news for the folks who will be able to get home. an awfully cold night out here not to get in your home. for now live in northwest d.
