doug and karen. doug: danielle, thank you. 5:17 is your time. a check of the stories we're following right now. karen: firefighters are investigating after flames forced more than a dozen people out of their home. this happened here on butler street in lawrence. noon yesterday, quickly rising to three alarms. fire departments from nearby towns rushed over to help. one firefighter suffered minor injuries after he was hit by falling debris. fight against the zika virus. the governor declared a state of emergency to fight the mosquito-borne illness. the state is in the midst of a dengue fever outbreak; more than 250 cases confirmed. there have been no locally transmitted cases of zika, but there is concern that the mosquitoes that carry dengue fever can also carry zika. will bring in more money to control outbreaks. karen: a fundraiser will be held today to benefit the women's hockey player injured on the ice at gillette stadium. denna laing was paralyzed at the winter classic on new year's eve. f.m.c. ice sports in pembroke is already donating one

"5 investigates" uncovering more about those emergency inspections frank just talked about. and so far no major issues have been found. investigators have, however, found an almost identical accident that happened back in 2014 in new york. a truck driver from springfield was killed on the cross bronx expressway when a truck in front of him kicked up a manhole cover and sent it right through his windshield. antoinette: new this morning aaron hernandez has settled a civil lawsuit in florida. the former patriot was being sued by a friend who claimed hernandez had shot him in the face three years ago at a florida nightclub. alexander bradley's lawyers filed court papers in miami claiming the matter has been settled, but terms of the settlement were not disclosed. hernandez is currently serving life for the 2013 murder of odin lloyd. and he's awaiting a trial for a nearly nine months after they convicted the boston marathon bomber, the list of jurors in the case has

doug: a deadly shooting spree in michigan. the suspect under arrest now doug: right now fire investigators are searching for the cause of this massive mill fire. it started around 3am saturday morning in the sagamore mill in fall river. the building collapsed under the intense flames. investigators say the mill was vacant and are looking for clues as to how the fire started. >> the clock is ticking. doug: tears and many questions as a call for help from the el faro was played publicly. the call made on the day the ship sank in hurricane joaquin. sera: the eye' s frank holland has been following the hearing. frank: played in a coast guard probe in the sinking of the ship. >> we had a whole breach. it blew up and during the storm. frank: the captain was looking for a qualified individual to help crews make repairs during hurricane walking -- hurricane. >> the engineers cannot get it going. can i speak with a q i, please? frank: people died including three people with ties to massachusetts. the coast guard will decide if negligen

doug: incredibly sad. newscenter 5's frank holland is here with more on the devastating aftermath of friday's storm. frank: doug and antoinette, the canton police chief tells us these tragedies are so devastating because they were accidental and unexpected. right now the community mourning the sudden death of a beloved father and coach. 48-year-old thomas gunning was tending to their backyard hockey rink friday night when a branch snapped under the weight of heavy snow and came crashing the fire chief telling us it happened so fast gunning had no time to react. this accident happened just hours after the same terrible tragedy on the other side of town. around 2:00 friday afternoon, six-year-old kaleigh kenyon was hit and killed by a tree limb. >> it's difficult to understand how and why these things happen. it's so random. and coincidental. it's hard to figure out. i don't know that we will. frank: a gofundme page has been set up for the kenyon family. that's already raised more than $20,000. doug: canton
