emma wright joins us live with more on this story, good morning. >> well, it took nearly a month for both sides to agree on 12 jurors that will consider the death penalty. now, opening nearly 3 years after she was found murdered in her north hills apartment the man accused of killing jones willing before a jury. the 23-year old murdered the mom of two in her own bed. police say jones had recently moved to raleigh with her daughter from tennessee. on the morning of may 14th, 2013, police say the then 8-year old girl left the apartment, approached a construction crew. they followed her back and found jones's body laying in bed covered with blood. neighbors told us what happened was shocking. >> it was really surprising. i mean, you don't hear about crime so close to home. >> police say smith had help from two people. one pleaded guilty to first degree murder in 2015 and may testify against smith. redden is also charged in the case. prosecutors say she served as the get away driver was anthony and smith jones lived. she has not been offered a plea deal and is also expected to testify. t

emma wright is checking out the roads where they're preparing for icy conditions. good morning. >> right, we're not seeing anything bad yet, however, you can tell crews have been out preparing for that winter weather that alyssa has been telling us about. we were on 70 right now. let me pull this up here. there you go, you can see the white lines on the road that is the brine solution that they've put down, brine is a salt mixture that they put on the roads to hopefully make it melt a little bit faster and have it not stick and create any slick conditions. so far we have not seen any ice. we've been on 70, 40, 95, all of those have been brined. we haven't seen any ice. we haven't seen any brine on the secondary roads, however, that is pretty typical. out here and because it's so cold in addition to brining all of the roads some area shelters trying to get ahead of themselves before the storm too. in durham the rescue mission launched operation rescue that means the shelter is open to men and women who don't have a warm place to go. they go go there and with have a
