dow-du-pont won't make johnston the headquarters for its ag spin-off company, but it's naming the johnston facility its "global business center" for research. the state of iowa is giving dow-du-pont $17 million dollars for that "global business center" designation.. $16 million comes from the iowa economic development authority - $2 million dollars of that is a forgivable loan, and the other $14 million is in the form of tax credits.. the city of johnston is matching the final $1 million dollars there. both groups approved those measures today. in order to get that money, dow- du-pont has to do a few things: first the merger between the two giants has to get the approval of the federal government later this year... then the company has to commit to spending at least half a billion dollars at its johnston location... that can be done in the form of employee salaries and buying research equipment. finally, it has to retain at least 500 the 26- hundred person facility. johnston mayor paula dierenfeld says the company in johnston expects to hover around that 26-hundred employee level in the sh
