we'll begin with meteorologist lee goldberg outside our studios and he is tracking it all. >> you're not going to be digging out from the snow like we are in parts of long island earlier in the day. the next 24 hours, not talking about big accumulations, but like this, we had light snow return to new york city. a bit of a sheen on columbus avenue. that could make for slippery spots. some snowfall amounts, obviously the east end the jackpot. 5 and a half inches orian point. had a that melted. 2 and a half inches in norwalk, danbury close to 2 inches. new jersey totals, only a trace in newark. we're 32 degrees right now. visibility has gone down a bit with additional light snow. the winter weather advisories and warnings for the most part have expired but the new advisory for central new jersey will now go in to wednesday morning. i think it's tuesday night in to wednesday morning when we can pile up several inches across central and southern new jersey. meanwhile coastal flooding, we're getting in to the high tide cycle.

meteorologist lee goldberg is tracking it all. he's live on the upper west side. >> we're just not wasting a flake today. after that frigid weekend, everything sticking. new york city, it's rare to see the snow stick this quickly. this is what's happening. and weekend snow for the next hour or two before sleet and ice mix in, eventually over to rainfall. you're looking at the toll plaza in the george washington bridge. after 7:00, 7:30, steady snow across the area. heaviest over parts of fairfield, westchester, rocklin county. it is changing to rain and coastal monmouth as well as these winds continue to come off the 40-degree ocean water. we're less than 36 hours removed from subzero temperatures. it's going to take a while to scour this out. we're seeing a steady climb in temperatures but still in the teens well north and west. proung laed period of icing north and west. here's the way everything evolves here in the evening hours. climbing above freezing. because roadways have been so cold, it will still be before 8:00 and 9:00

meteorologist lee goldberg in the weather center. >> talking snow and talking near 60-degree temperatures at 11:00 at night here in early february. cloudy skies right now. the winds are calm. yes, that's what we're going to go through over the next 24 hours. we have areas of fog and i think tomorrow morning still low visibilities in the eastern end of long island and near the snow pack. otherwise just a little bit of light rain. in terms of rainfall amounts, nearly an inch and a half in white plains. that's why we saw the closure earlier. 3/fourth -- 3/4ths of snow melt, still some lingering water there. the last of the rain at least for now moving off the east end of long island. but this front is hanging back and this area of rain over the midatlantic will once again brush the coastline tomorrow morning with at least some light rain and drizzle and you can see that. even when the front starts to push away during the middle of the day and skies try to brighten, it makes a return trip tomorrow night so rain comes back then colder air is working in. worst case is as we go through tomorrow

long island reporter kristin thorne in suffolk county where we begin with meteorologist lee goldberg. he's outside our studios in the upper west side. >> western suburbs not a flake but the east end of long island, a half foot of snowfall, dependent on where you are and right now we have flurries in new york city. no harm, no foul, and pretty good around new york city for the evening commute. snow totals, 5 1/2 inches in orion point. bayside queens at 2. under an inch in williamsburg and central park only a trace of snowfall. connecticut 1 to 2 inches. norwalk at 2 inches. we didn't get much snow in new jersey other than flurries. the park is bare though we had a coating earlier, and we're down to freezing. leftover snow will make for icy spots into the evening hours. winter storm warning into the early evening. snow is getting lighter. it's a stubborn area that goes from central long island to connecticut and the hudson valley with light accumulation. there's an additional winter weather advisory for later tomorrow into wednesday morning where we can have additional snowfall. coastal

. >> lee goldberg is outside timing out the storm. >> reporter: you might think temperatures in the 40s and role rain but in the last hour we bumped up to 540. very little in the way of rainfall, just light rain which will change as we go through the next few hours. look at this picture from queens manhattan. visibility ceilings are still low. it's 540 right now. parts of the area are pushing 600. the tornado watch is out for mercer county. it's more the philadelphia area but we are right on the fringe the evening and severe weather already in virginia, north carolina and active tornado warnings there. the storm prediction center has put in a slight risk of severe weather after 7 pm or 8 pm tonight. wind advisories are also in effect. new york city, connecticut, the coastline is starting to see wind cranking up near 30 miles per hour. that will only increase. we have had three quarters of an inch of rain fall. at least as we go into the evening commute, we have gone into a relative lull where you still need the umbrella but we are in shower rains and then more thunderstorms coming towar
