valerie castro joins us live with the developing story live in the belmont section of the bronx tonight. valerie? >> reporter: maurice, this most recent incident happened along southern boulevard in the bronx. the victim says the violence was completely unprovoked and he says it's not the first time he's been attacked while driving a bus. >> punched my head. >> reporter: dennis done well has been a bus driver for the last 13 years. at least twice he's been attacked behind the wheel. the most recent assault, a violent beating. he says he was parked along the bronx 19 bus route on southern boulevard when someone approached the door. the person who steps onto the bus appears to say something before reaching over the partition. >> walking, says something to me about, don't do that again. i said, what did you say? he started to punch me all over. >> reporter: the suspect gets off the bus only to jump back on to continue tirade. he says he tried to do escape but was trapped. >> there was nowhere to run. you can see my right eye, it's all red. i've got double vision. i can't even see straight.

valerie castro, cbs2 news. >> thank you. >>> new at 6:30, it's happened again. more unprovoked random slashings. this time two people were injured in separate incidents in the bronx this weekend. hazel sanchez has more. >> reporter: the slashing happened right here on east 173rd street. some people are saying it was a random attack while people who live in the area are saying it was a neighborhood fight. what everyone agrees on is that there have been way too many of needs to be done to make our streets safer. >> another slashing on the streets of new york city. this time here on 173rd street near southern boulevard in the bronx. >> it is a little bit out of the normality of this neighborhood to get a slashing. the way that it's been happening in the city. >> reporter: police say around 3:00 sunday morning a 32-year-old man was slashed on the face. husband attacker took off. kenneth wade lives in the neighborhood and says he witnessed the attack. >> i seen a little commotion, arguing going on right here with some people i couldn't know exactly. some was older. t

. >> cbs2 news valerie castro has more on the damage after the storm, live in yonkers where roads just reopened. valerie? >> reporter: southbound lanes of the bronx river parkway are now open, but stretches of the parkway were closed for hours today, so crews could deal with flooded streets and in fact, northbound portions are still shut down, just north of the springbrook parkway, the messageboard alerting drivers to the issues that lay ahead, the weather caused all kinds of problems around the tri-state area. >> the tree basically on top of our house. came home to this in englewood, new jersey and realized he had a big problem to deal with. >> branches and debris all over the place. >> thankfully no one was inside when it happened. >> reporter: his nine-month-old son's room was left a mess. >> it's messed up, the ceiling and everything else, not much water damage, but a lot of broken parts and stuff like that. >> reporter: trees also fell in livingston, this one splintered as it fell across the roadway and in yonkers where crews had to deal with downed power lines. wet and soggy day

it happen of the upper east side and that is where valerie castro joins us now live. mallory? >> reporter: the attack happened on this stretch of 94th between second and third. immediately after the woman ran down the street, around the corner and into a market, the suspect followed her inside, and was caught on camera. we've concealed the victim's identity as she walks inside this market to get away from her attacker. she quickly urges the store employee i have to call 911. the man police are now looking for walks through the door and claims to be looking for his wife. >> where is my wife? i say, what? i don't know. your wife. >> reporter: before they walked into the store, police say the man attacked her on 94th street. put her in a choke hold, threw her to the ground, groped her and robbed her of $40. the woman was walking to work around 5:00 saturday morning when the attack happened. after taking her cash, sources say the attacker tried to walk away and told the woman to have a nice day. he even allegedly said, i feel that and tried to return the stolen cash. the woman ran

valerie castro joins us now live from the east side. valerie? >> reporter: tonight, police are looking for a man they say is armed with a knife or razor blade and going after subway riders. his most recent victim was a sleep on the train when the assault began. police commissioner bratton says he was asking police officers to wake people up when they're asleep to bring crime numbers down. >> we believe almost 50% of the reported crime in the subway involve sleeping passengers. >> reporter: it was a sleeping passenger on the northbound four train targeted by this man. police say it was 3:00 in the morning when the slumbering straphanger woke up. the victim punched in the face when he tried to stop the suspect. the attempted robbery and assault is just the latest case of transit crime. nypd commissioner bill bratton says those in passengers become easy targets. darling. one of the areas we are going to focus on is subways are not for sleeping. >> reporter: despite a grunt -- dropping crime overall, transit crime for january was up more than 36%. b

valerie castro life where passionate residents packed valerie? >> reporter: a meeting finally wrapped up after more than three hours of discussion and debate. community board voted yes in favor of proposed changes on amsterdam avenue including a protected bike lane. the final vote 28 in favor, 13 against. >> the resolution passes. >> reporter: the meeting was contentious and at one point standing room only. those who couldn't make it inside found a way to show support by holding signs through the open windows. the proposed design created by the department of transportation would take away one of four traffic lanes on amsterdam avenue to create a dedicated bike lane and other new features like loading zones. those against the proposal say it would eliminate parking spots and increase congestion and noise. those for it say it's a necessary safety improvement after several pedestrian deaths. the most recent, almost 3 weeks ago on 96th and amsterdam. >> i can't breathe. bicycle on amsterdam avenue, you are nuts. it's all commercial, trucks and buses.

cbs2's valerie castro with more from wycoff. >> come on. >> reporter: bear is a sweet and playful lab mix puppy who just a month ago was rescued from this north bergen home. more than 50 animals were found inside the house on hillcrest road with no heat and in filthy living conditions. a dead dog and several cats were also discovered. debbie, bear's new owner, remembers seeing images. >> i saw people carrying out the dogs and i saw, you know, some were so young. and to think that no one was really caring for them and then some of them looked really frightened. i saw like almost, you know, 50 or 60 dogs in need. i thought one of them needs us. >> reporter: they reached out to a shelter and found bear. >> he was so scared that they he wouldn't come out on the leash or anything like that. just thinking they were all traumatized. >> reporter: he has since become a part of the family and has new found friends. bear was able to find a loving and happy home, but there are still other dogs from that hoarding house that are up for adoption. these three are some of the dogs that were most skidd
