there were 21 students on the bus from birmingham to montgomery. none of them were over the age of 23. they were black and white. as they were being attacked, congressman lewis suggested to the students in the middle of all of this that they stand together and try to huddle together and not get separated. two of the people that were most badly beaten were the lone white male on the bus. he was an exchange student at the time from wisconsin. he and congressman lewis were the first to offer bus. the crowd that formed had all manner of weapons with which to attack these students with. there were bats and chains and pipes and crates and just any manner of weaponry that you could think of to attack the students. after he was attacked, the crowd turned to commerce and lewis. he was hit with a coca-cola crate. that is the last thing he remembered. a were both beaten unconscious. others caught up in this attack were the assistant to attorney general robert f kennedy. his name was john c installer. he came upon the scene as the students were being attacked

well birmingham, upwards of all been from the same parent cell. we'll survey the damage today, national weather service will and will let us know as far as what happened there as far as the intensity. it's a damage scale so they have to look at debris, by that they can determine what winds caused the damage. the front is weakening as it moves through today. for us that means just mostly cloudy skies, a couple of showers, then we're looking pretty good as we head through tonight. at arrows depicting a south wind, bringing us a little more moisture. you can feel the humidity this morning. then we'll begin to clear out as we head through later in afternoon. dry air begins to move in, i think we'll be in pretty good shape, look at the temperatures, it's been a while since we had temperatures in the mid-60s. feels nice, more spring-like. inverness 63. you were in the low 40s yesterday so much cooler. and we'll continue to track futurecast here, but chunk of dry air tomorrow, nice. then another weak front comes in friday setting us up for a pretty spect

you can see some thunderstorms developing just north of interstate 20 from birmingham over toward metro atlanta. there is a risk that we could see some severe weather but the storm prediction center has it from atlanta through most of north georgia into knoxville and back into alabama and birmingham. >> this risk as far east as western oconee county from franklin, bryson city and southwest bound through gainesville and back into atlanta. it does include you folks in taco with a, in stevens county. most of these -- it's not a major system. and really i'm talking about maybe a few isolated strong to severe thunderstorms and the main threat would be damaging winds as we go through the evening. we'll have to watch it closely. here are some showers developing just west of gainesville heading toward lake lanier. we had some stronger storms move as it made its way closer it fell apart. hopefully we'll stabilize the atmosphere enough to where we'll see just thundershowers and nothing strong to severe but i'll keep you updated. look how fast we warmed up. 71 degrees. 11 degrees above the average
