. >> emma wright is live on scene with more on what happened. emma? >> reporter: we know this accident happens around 8:30 last night right outside of the entrance to nc wesleyan on north wesleyan boulevard. we know the road was shut down for a while. the car and suv collided right at the entrance to the school. four people died, one person a male, the driver of the car, was taken to the hospital. we've been putting in calls to rocky mount police. they say this is very much an ongoing investigation. they are not releasing many details. a short while ago we did get a says in brief "this evening a terrible, unthinkable tragedy struck the north carolina wesleying family." it goes on to say that the president will make remarks once they have had a chance to notify the families of those involved. again, they say this is very much under investigation. we don't know the names of the victims or the driver of that car yet. we'll stay on top of this and bring you another update coming up. i'm emma wright, cbs north carolina. >>> we are learning more about the o

it's where we find emma wright with the latest. emma, what do you know? >> reporter: well, durham police just took down that crime scene tape and cleared the scene about 20 minutes ago. we do know that they've been out here since 10:30 last night. almost seven hours on maplewood drive in durham. it looks like the shooting happened in the residential neighborhood. we saw a lot of police activity when we arrived on the scene at 5:00. again, they just pulled away about 20 minutes ago. we'll show you video of what the scene looks like earlier last night. durham police say two people were shot on maplewood drive. they got the call around 10:30. they say the two people were taken to the hospital where one person died. they say the other person does not have life-threatening injuries. right now, we're still waiting if they are looking for any suspects. durham police say they are asking anyone who saw any information to call crimestoppers. i did talk with them about an hour or so ago. they say this is still an active investigation, but they are not releasing any

cbs north carolina emma wright has been on top of the story all week for us and joins us live from the raleigh police department with more. emma. >> the raleigh police department released their preliminary report yesterday. in that report we learned that denkins and twiddy for you to with each other and denkins tried to pull at twiddy's gun before he shot him. he was shot as he was trying to arrest him on a felony drug charge. he ran from twiddy officer twiddy felt denkins reach for a weapon and that's when he fired those shots. >> i talked to the family earlier this week concerning what some of the medical findings were. you know, certainly there was a report or some reports in the media from the beginning that mr. denkins had been shot 7 times in the back, clearly the autopsy does not reflect that. >> wake county district attorney who you just heard from right there says this investigation is far from over. coming up at 5:30 we're going to hear from her again ask she's going to talk about why her office is still asking people who may have seen something when the shoot happened to com

emma wright is live at wake tech, one of the schools that will soon see the improvements. emma? >> reporter: this bond has been proposed last year with some saying $2 billion was way too much money. however, the voters have spoken and the state says the money will be put to good use. it will be used for things like sewer and water line improvements, but most of it will go to colleges and universities, a lot of it going to high-tech buildings. we're told unc will get a new medical center and a new business school. both republicans and democrats had been lobbying hard for this bond to pass and are very excited it's going to happen. >> our message is that these bonds are easily affordable within our debt capacity. they don't require a tax increase, and they are making much-needed investments in our future to meet the needs of a growing state. >> reporter: now, coming up in our next half hour, we'll break down where some of that bond money will be going locally. reporting live in raleigh, i'm emma wright, cbs north carolina. nomination to run for governor again. last night, he tacke

emma wright joins us now live from the raleigh police department. she's been on the story and has details. emma? >> reporter: the raleigh police department does plan to issue a statement about what happened sometime within the next few days, and the fbi is also investigating. people in southeast raleigh say they want a transparent report from both organizations. they say they just want to know what happened. last night, dozens of people from the southeast raleigh community held a protest and marched from the scene of that shooting to the courthouse in downtown raleigh and back again to the scene of where that shooting happened on brad street. before that march happened, community leaders, including dr. reverend william barber with the naacp and mayor nancy they were calling for calm and peace while this investigation is under way. >> we stand here, elected officials both present and past, as leaders of this community to ask for calm, prayers, and patience. any loss of life, regardless of circumstances, is a tragedy. we offer our sincere condolences

"cbs north carolina" reporter emma wright is live at the wake county health department. what do we know about this first case so far? >> reporter: we know this person contracted the zika a. the health department says when they got home to north carolina they started to feel sick, had symptoms of the virus, went to the doctor. the doctor tested, that test came back positive. the health department says they've been carefully monitoring this person. and want to remind people there's no need to panic. the virus still can't be passed from person-to-person. began to proactively prepare for the possibility of the zika virus making its way to north carolina months ago. they say they've been keeping in close contact with officials about the virus and where it is spreading. associated with birth defects and linked to serious brain abnormalities in babies born to women who contracted it. it spread rapidly in cases of year. and some cases in the u.s. the past several months. the zika virus, again, can't be passed from person-to-person. we're going to talk to them in a few minutes. w

emma wright is live with reaction from the new unc emma, what are you hearing? >> reporter: we're hearing people are excited about it. opponents say $2 billion is too much for people to spend, but now that the voters have spoken, the state says they are ready for it and the schools are excited about it. the $2 billion bond will be used for infrastructure projects around the state. most of the money will go to the state colleges and universities, the university system and community colleges. we're told unc will get a new building for their medical school and central will get a new business school. getting this $2 billion bond passage has been a bipartisan effort. republicans and democrats working together to get the measure passed. the schools say they are excited about the new money. system with a big focus on math and science centers all over the system. is this a great victory for the fuel of north carolina and the students in the system. >> reporter: we're expecting governor mccrory to hold some kind of event this morning to thank voters for passing this $2 b

emma wright is on site right now. emma, what do we know about what happened? >> reporter: police have been out here for almost eight hours now. here on maplewood drive where the shooting happened, in the they started wrapping up the investigation. they took the police tape away, the police cars are pulling away. we've seen them out here taking pictures and putting down evidence markers, trying to figure out what happened. about an hour ago we watched them tow away a car that was parked in the road here, surrounded by crime scene tape. this neighborhood is a residential neighborhood. the houses are pretty close together here on maplewood drive. we do know, like russ and stefan said, two people were shot here last night. we understand one of them died at the hospital. the others who nonlife- threatening injuries. durham police haven't released the names of the people involved in this yet. they are asking anyone with information to contact crimestoppers. we'll bring you another update on what's happening. >> thanks for staying on top of it, emma. >>> donald trump
