to jeff weaver, thank you so much for being here. you perhaps heard brian fouling talking about the quote unquote damn e-mails and perhaps you heard me frame this as an issue of transparency or lack of tras parasee. why isn't that on bernie sanders' while house when lack of transparency isn't an important weapon in the arsenal when it comes to campaign finance? >> look, michael, you know, there is a process going on, a legal process going on as you mentioned earlier, a one staffer got immunity. when you get immunity, you gave what's called a proper to the government. you told them if you were given immunity and the government says that's pretty good, we'll give you i'm marco rubioty. that's going to work itself out and so the point is is that let the process work itself out. it will end where it ends. talking about it doesn't make the process go one way or another. it's not a process you can influence in any way but what he does want to do, there are a number, as you know, substantive differences between he and secretary clinton like

right now, we're joined by jeff weaver. he's the bernie sanders campaign manager. jeff, thanks very much for joining us. i want to talk about what's going on in the race. let me give you a chance to respond to the corey lewin do ski charge filed today. you're the campaign manager for bernie sanders campaign. what's your campaign's reaction? >> look, wolf, i think bernie sanders has been very up front about condemning the kind of -- what i would call thuggary that happens at many of these trump events where donald trump advocates the physical violence against protesters and people who don't support him offering to pay the legal fees of people who sucker punch protester. this is what happens. it looks like it pervades the campaign both amongst reporters and staff. i obviously can't speak about the legal issues because there's a legal proceeding going on but i do think the kind of advocacy of violence by donald trump is unacceptable and this is what it leads to. >> the democratic race for the white house, you just heard the press secretary for the hillary clinton camp

i am here with jeff weaver, bernie sanders' campaign manager. i think you were resigned to the result in louisiana but you're looking at what's happening in michigan. not too much reporting yet but obviously it's good so far. how key is this? >> well, look, we were down 30 points not long ago. saw public polls last week that had us down 20 points, 30 points. he finished very, very strong. we'll see how it turns out. it's obviously going to be very close in michigan one way or the other. i think his debate performance despite the pundits was well received in michigan on substance. i think he scored all the points. and i think, frankly, secretary clinton's negative false attack which has been exposed over and over again in various media on the auto rescue really backfired on her because i think, you know, i think you have to be very careful, rightly or wrongly, she has perceived to not always have the most authenticity and to launch a negative attack that's shown to be false i think is really devastating. >> reporter: so we're seeing 15% reporting

i was watching some of these late returns come in backstage with jeff weaver and the sort of brain trusts on the bernie sanders' campaign. they insist they are going to keep going forward with the same strategy, but they acknowledge it is a much tougher road. the mood overall is much more grim than it was a couple of hours ago. they're now looking carefully at those returns in illinois. when i was standing back with them, they were hoping to keep the margin in that all-important cook county below ten points and they were looking at missouri. but that's not where they wanted to be tonight. they wanted to be talking about ohio and being closer than they expected in north carolina. that's not what they were talking about. that staid, they're going to soldier on and they're talking about how they're going to try to squeeze delegates out of this process. think about how rand paul squeezed delegates out of caucus states in 2012. sanders is in arizona on thursday for an afternoon rally and idaho on friday. but they know they're going to have to win some of these big states, wisconsin, pennsylvan

i spoke with jeff weaver, bernie sanders' campaign manager and he said "we can't complain right now." he thinks that it's the auto bailout messaging that hillary clinton pursued that really back fired on her. he thought that it played in to some voter suspicions that hillary clinton wasn't playing it straight with them because he felt that voters really didn't doubt that bernie sanders was on the side of the automakers. i'll tell you also there a lot of long-time supporters here in florida or even watching from afar, one who had just left the rally thinking that ultimately bernie sanders was going to leave, sent me a text while grabbing a little dinner, "wow michigan," win or lose, wolf, this is something that puts a lot of wind in the sails of bernie sanders' campaign. >> especially looking ahead to next week with similar demographic to michigan. as soon as we hear from bernie sanders, we're going to take that live. we've been saying you have to give bernie sanders a lot of of credit in michigan. it was not supposed to be this close and he's doing really well. >> you and i have been

joining us is jeff weaver. i think it's fair to say i don't believe even you guys thought bernie sanders would win in michigan, did you? >> we knew it was close and and obviously in these types of situations it's hard to know how close. we didn't know if we were going to get over the hump, which we obviously did. >> clearly we saw brianna at the site of your rally. he would have waited for a victory speech, right? >> it would have been a late night for a victory speech given how late we've gone, but he spoke to many thousands of people here at miami earlier. everywhere he goes he's received by these crowds haof thousands people and it was the case in michigan and let me on behalf of bernie and the campaign thank the people of michigan for standing up to the pundits. >> why do you believe he won in michigan tonight? >> i think this issue of trade, senator sanders has opposed these trade deals that have been devastating michigan, ohio and other states for so many years. he has been a consistent opponent of them.
