john: how long have you been a john kasich supporter? charlie: he has been a friend of mine his whole adult life. or 6is race, there were 5 candidates who i was personal friends with so i sat it out until it narrowed down to one. last night, i told john a day or marco lost, ior was with him. john: if there is anything of the republican establishment, you would be a charter member of it? ofrlie: i sent the majority my adult life in the trenches of electing. john: why is it that john kasich who is extraordinarily popular, why is it that that guy has seen so little support from fellow members of your club, up until it even now, not very much. even with the people who are come over. as donald trump gained strength, and john kasich did not, where have you all been? he started late and did not spend a lot of time around washington, but a lot of people signed up early especially for marco rubio. will see apen, you lot more donors and more party leaders coming to support john kasich. what matters is the people out in the field in the primaries,

john kasich now as momentum out of ohio. he will win other primaries in the northwest and mid east, and maybe california. we are going to go to the convention. i think donald trump will have about 40% of the delegates, ted cruz, about 25%, and the rest will be john kasich delegates, or even undecided. it will be a wide open, competitive convention. as you know, all of the delegates are free agent. you are continuing the pointer, that john kasich will not be able to be the nominee in a straightforward way, he won't be able to get to 1237. do you think it is possible for donald trump to get a majority? he has not gotten anywhere near that so far. i think he will end up with about 40% of the delicate. -- delegates. trumps people will not the second,be on third, fourth ballot. in john kasich has as much chance as anybody. he is the most qualified. charlie, i follow a lot of what you're saying but the thing i have trouble following is the notion of a slamdunk that john kasich will win states or even be competitive in eight. given

kasich, he said, look, if i lived in ohio i'd john kasich. if i lived in florida, i would vote for ted cruz. he was saying where an alternative to trump is the strongest, republicans should vote for that alternative? is that something you want to see going forward? there are going to be states where kasich looks better to take on trump and there are states that cruz is better to take on trump. the main thing is don't be voting for trump right now? >> no, the main message that john kasich is going to be sending is he's the only one that can unite our country and get america moving again. it's interesting. i think you were reporting donald trump is considering not doing the debate next week in utah which is a little surprising but i can see why if he doesn't want to go up against a proven governor like john kasich who has a record of job creation and uniting men and women together to solve some of the biggest problems. the message from john kasich is bringing america together, getting jobs going again, getting washington working for the men and

john kasich will pick up delegates in michigan. you mentioned the idaho primary which we speck to come in. it has 32 delegates at stake. everybody will be chasing donald trump. there are caucuses in hawaii. the same terms there, polls suggesting another goodnight for donald trump. they're six hours behind all of us here. hillary clinton got a huge victory in mississippi, if only because of margin, 82 to 16 over bernie sanders it means that of the asserted 36 elected delegates, hillary clinton will probably get 29 or 30. bernie sanders pay be five or six. that spread of 25 is important because look at what is happening to hillary clinton in michigan. bernie sanders has a 3 point edge that would suggest he will probably win maybe around 70 of the delegates if this holds up. this will be a humiliation of hillary clinton given the importance that she had placed on michigan over the last couple of days. bernie sanders' message about inincome equality, unfair trade, that is resonating with the people there. if you look at the overall can

john kasich, 43-37. and so, look, john kasich gets all 66 delegates. the other winner take all state was florida. donald trump wins florida 45-26. he gets all 99. he adds to his list in florida. in north carolina, the race is too close to call. if this holds up, they would split the 72 delegates, about 36-36, or 37-35 depending on the final outcome. in the state of illinois, it is intriguing. too close do call. donald trump has something of a lead. 39-25. let's suppose the number holds up. if donald trump wins every congressional district. it's possible that all 69 delegates would go to him. this is not winner take all. they give delegates to whoever wins the state and each congressional district. the breakdown of how donald trump does could make up for the fact that they didn't win owe ohio, but he may get the numbers he was hoping for. the final contest is missouri, and this state races close 42-40. the delegates are awarded proportionately. they would split the 52. let's look at the delegate numbers, this is the magic number. 1,237 needed to win. do

john kasich wins ohio. but still people think he has credibility, he is the governor of ohio, for heavens sakes. >> do polls point, if kasich does in fact win ohio, then the chances of there being some sort of a brokered convention, some sort of a deal? >> i think there are people scheming as we speak to try to arrange that. i really do think that. whether or not they will succeed is a whole other story. there would be such an incredible backlash if the perception was afoot that they were in any way monkeying with this and succeeded. >> because already, i mean, we talked about this before, we've seen in the polls already, among voters, there's huge dissatisfaction, distrust of their own party leaders. >> one of the thing i learned when i was home this weekend, i write a monthly column, on a front page that 46,000 democrats had registered to vote in the republican primary in april. and the comment was, obviously, that there's something going on here. i've seen trump people say that's why they're doing it. >>

according to john kasich is john kasich. del. >> lisa, let's turn to the democrats, hillary clinton winning in ohio. in fact she won big there, gaining a larger lead now in delegates over bernie sanders. can she ride that wave of momentum all the way to the convention? >> well, it was a stellar night for hillary clinton. there is no doubt about it. she won here in ohio, she won a number of other big states. it's really what she needed to do. she has tried to show herself as the inevitable nominee. she seems even more so now that she has won these big states. i think she has two thirds of the delegates she needs to clinch the nomination and she is clearly already locking ahead, way ahead to november. here was secretary clinton last night. >> our next president has to be ready to face three big tasks, first, can you make positive differences in people's lives? second, can you keep us safe? third, can you bring our country together again. >> of course, sanders is staying in the race, too, so she doesn't have it all to herself.

john kasich picked up stu spencer and charlie black. those two guys were in the convention hall the last time this happened, which was 1976. they were on opposite sides. now they've teemed up on team kasich starting tonight for the convention. you're also going to hear a little bit about the very first republican convention because that's the first time this happened. big, strong front-runner goes into the convention, i just happen to have the ballot counts here, on the first ballot the front-runner gets 173 votes, the second place guy gets 102, the final ballot that front-runner ended up with 164, the second place guy had 231 and that's how abrah abraham lincoln got the nomination. the dishonor the republican party will have is what they had when they voted abraham lincoln. >> voters don't expect the convention to be the deciding place anymore. even though you're right there is this long and absolutely noble history of conventions being the places where these things are decided, voters stopped expecting that sometime in the 1980s. >> t

he's worried about john kasich. just a few moments ago donald trump said john kasich can't make america great again. he's gone after the governor of ohio again talking about these trade deals, which is a big issue in the rust belt area of youngstown, ohio, and other portions of this region. one thing you can say about this event so far in terms of how things have been going the last few days, erin, there hasn't been any trouble. no demonstrators, no protests, no clashes. essentially, it's been a pretty tame rally by recent standards, but we can tell you that have been putting in some different security measures throughout the afternoon. unlike many of the trump rallies where a person could park in the parking lot outside the event. people attending this rally had to park seven miles away at a local shopping center and then get bussed in. according to my colleague, they did that to tamp down on protesters and keep people out who are against donald trump. law enforcement said really this is about the parking issues. w
