they're remembering robert wilson the third. it was on this day one year ago that gunmen shot and killed sergeant wilson during a robbery in. the community held a vigil for him at the 22nd police district headquarters. that's where we're live tonight. an emotional day for those who were close to sergeant wilson. >> reporter: family members friends and fellow police officers of officer robert wilson iii gathered here. it was a year ago today he left headquarters to patrol the streets and he never came home. his fellow police officers holding a small ceremony in his honor. wilson's family and friends sat in the front row as the mayor and police commissioner spoke of his bravery. the crowd released dozens of yellow and green balloons into the air. wilson was shot and killed a year ago today protecting shoppers inside a game stop store. he exchanged fire with two suspects. both have since been arrested. wilson's family said he made the conscious decision to save lives. >> he chose to make the decision to become an officer. to protec

fox 29's shawnette wilson is live in north philadelphia tonight where vigil for sergeant wilson just ended shawnette. >> reporter: joyce, this vigil was a mix of emotions as you can imagine many gathered to celebrate sergeant wilson's life remember his smile and dedication to the job but also a lot of tears were shed. as we take a look at some video what was very emotional scene as balloons were released here by people gathered in memory of sergeant wilson during the vigil outside the 22nd district. it was held today because it was march 5th last year that he was gunned down during attempted robbery at a north philly game stop. as his fellow officers in blue stood in formation, city leaders gave words of comfort. sergeant wilson's sister spoke tearfully about her brother and the dedication of other philadelphia police. >> for everything that's going on i stated before he was a man behind a uniform. he chose a profession. he chose to make that decision to become an officer. to protect. officers including him they're people. lives are precious and uh-uh can't decide to take a life. >>

there rested wilson and charged arrested wilson for us a 3 after-the-fact. wilson made her first court appearance -- accessory after the fact. wilson made her first quarter parents -- up court appearance on monday. families of both victims say they both leave behind young children. we will here for those families -- from those families coming up . >>today the woman accused of hitting for bicyclist in johnson county is also scheduled to appear in front of a judge. back in february deputy say the 50-year-old was traveling when she struck bicyclist from behind as she attempted to pass. either alcohol nor speed played a factor in the case. the bicyclists are in serious but not life-threatening injuries. who hit and killed a man. it happened friday night on putnam church road. authority say matthew phillips was lying in the road when he was run over. the highway patrol says the driver who hit him may not have even realized it. authorities are asking any dryers -- drivers who were in the area and think they may have hit an animal or object to please come forward.

wilson. we have to remember what he did. almost immediately after he became president he allowed his cabinet to put in jim crow regulations henceforth people who were advancing black men who were advancing in the civil service were stopped. he made no appointments that had to get through the congress. he was in many ways one of the worst presidents for washington dc. i have to say he was. which makes it very odd to me. he really dislikes the city. he never mentioned the city so far as i can find. everyone mentioned the city. john adams mentioned it. dwight eisenhower mentioned it. fdr mentioned it all the time. not once woodrow wilson. which makes a curious. he is buried in washington. i have never quite understood that. but wilson, of course, did extraordinary damage to the city of washington through his racial, allowing these racial events to occur. it was almost entirely responsible. i wrote about this in politico recently for the 1919 ryan which was the 1st race riot of the summer of 1919 which was called the red summer
