brianna keilar is live at the sanders headquarters. first, i want to get to jeff zeleny at clinton headquarters in philadelphia. how confident is the clinton campaign going into tonight? >> reporter: jake, the clinton campaign is confident that at this point in the campaign cycle, they have gotten to trust their metrics, got tonight trust their numbers of turnout, but listen, this is first, second, presidential campaign as you know too well. they are never fully confident until they win. but pennsylvania was such a good state for her, in 2008. they believe that the demographics will help her here. they believe that this is a night where they turn the corner, turn a page, not actually in the general election but for all practical purposes, mathematically speaking, setting bernie sanders aside. now, secretary clinton is campaigning in indiana today. that's a state that comes next week and are less confident about that, but for the collection of states voting today, tonight, everything they've looked across the board feel like they have w

brianna keilar at a rally as well. >> you caught that? >> yeah, i caught that. >> at bernie sanders rally. >>> i want to turn to two people who know the political landscape in wisconsin better than anybody. jason stein is with us as well. a reporter for the "milwaukee journal sentinel." jerry, i'm going to start with you. you are one of six talk radio hosts. going on the air waves against donald trump and supporting ted cruz. why do you dislike trump so much? >> it's not a matter of dislike in a personal sense. it's a matter of feeling that he's completely unqualified to be president both in demeanor and in grassroot issues. other than that, he's a great candidate. there's nothing about the man that appears presidential in terms of intelectual heft, mastery of issues and the playground behavior. it's really that simple. >> just that simple. jason, you spent a lot of time talking to political figures, regular people. wisconsin being donald trump's waterloo or can he pull out a win there? >> you know, i think it's going to be very difficult

brianna keilar, cnn, laramie, wyoming. >> before that path to the white house, let's take a closer look now at the wisconsin primaries. we're joined by matthew litman. let's look at the delegate count on the democratic side. hillary clinton has about 1743 delegates right now, including pledged delegates as well as the superdelegates. 1778, sorry. bernie sanders trailing by about 700 delegates here. a lot of people on the bernie sanders' side, can hillary clinton stitch this up with pledged delegates alone? does she need the superdelegates? >> she's ahead by a lot and looks like some of the states coming up are pretty favorable to her. i think she'll do fine on the delegate count but the superdelegates, keep in mind these are members of the democratic party. bernie sanders isn't a democrat. he's a socialist. part of the work he should have done is get some of these people to support him, but he chose to not. if he were to be elected president, ed need the support of those people to get anything done. they don't support him now so i think it speaks very well for hillary that she has that

brianna keilar is there. it's the final push for wisconsin. they are in a dead heat in wisconsin. do they think they'll be able to pull a victory off tomorrow? >> i think they do, anderson. you hear bernie sanders there talking a very big game about what he's expecting out of his performance tomorrow night in wisconsin. the campaign is looking a lot at michigan where we saw that upset. they think the demographics of michigan are replicated in wisconsin. and also that he's going to be doing really well with college students and also with labor voters. you've seen that in his final push. he's emphasizing free public university for students and also he's really trying to critique hillary clinton on her past support, her trade agreements, nafta and the asia pacific partnership that she supported as secretary of state and is now against. so i think this is certainly something that they are feeling very confident about, but the question is, what is the margin going to be. because these delegates are awarded proportionately. polls show them neck and neck. >> after wisconsin there's new y

brianna keilar is there where he is speaking behind you. what is the campaign telling you about the cuts? >> reporter: they're really downplaying them. bernie sanders is speaking behind me, making indications that that he is not going anywhere. voters are going to the polls here next week. you can't escape the numbers here. we are talking about a campaign sized at over a thousand. i'm told they're going down to a number of about 325 to 350. the campaign manager jeff weaver telling me they had been at 550. perhaps there had been some attrition in states following iowa, but it wasn't publicized. we have seen the number here dropping. a lot of staffers were on a phone call with top campaign aides where they found out the news earlier. again, the campaign manager, jeff weaver, saying it is natural evolution of any campaign because there are fewer states going forward. you look at this development, certainly not good for bernie sanders in the context of this being a setback last night. you've also seen him sort of tempering what he has been sayi

brianna keilar live on the scene. new rumblings about the future of the sanders campaign? what can you tell us? >> reporter: that's right, wolf. the new york times was reporting that the sanders campaign was going to be reassessing the sanders candidacy after today, which is a day that is more advantageous towards hillary clinton. i spoke with campaign officials and he they say that is not the case. they will be doing reassessing but how to move towards getting majority of the pledged delegates, which they insist they still have their eye on. to that point, you can see the crowd here wrapping around the block, the big arena here in huntington, west virginia. voters don't go to the polls here until may 10th. you can see bernie sanders trying to look ahead, not only to west virginia but to california and oregon, where the sanders campaign thinks that they have a better chance. the math, though, wolf is very tough. if you're just looking at pledge delegates, bernie sanders would have to win about 6 out of 10 in order to deprive hillary clinton of the nomination. but they insi

political correspondent brianna keilar joins me with more on the clinton campaign. you were with during an event this afternoon. what's the latest with her? >> her closing against bernie sanders had to do with his position on guns, his college plan and whether it's realistic. and also women's issues and his commitment to them. this was a big women's event that she held in mid-town manhattan. they are also sensitive to this incoming that you mentioned. bernie sanders casting her as too close to wealthy donors and to wall street. to that point, you saw the bernie sanders campaign file a complaint letter with the dnc about hillary clinton's joint fundraising effort with them. this does build a general election war chest. there are benefits to hillary clinton for this, but the sanders campaign was saying this is not on the up and up. she's benefitting in a way she shouldn't. after that, we saw the clinton campaign manager get on a hastily arranged phone call with reporters and really try to tear apart what bernie sanders was saying. saying she's ab sloutly following the

i want to go to cnn's senior political correspondent brianna keilar who is in milwaukee tonight. they've agreed to another debate, this one before that critical primary in new york. tell us the details. >> reporter: well, it's going to be on april 14th and it's going to be in brooklyn, which is interesting because that's where hillary clinton has her campaign headquarters and that's where bernie sanders grew up. both of them have a special connection to where the debate is going to be held. the other interesting thing is it's going to be on cnn and our own wolf blitzer is going to be moderating it. this is a debate that came together after a whole lot of back and forth. kind of a testy back and forth between the sanders and the clinton campaign. sanders had offered to do it on a day two days before the april 19th new york primary. hillary clinton said, you know, what let's do it april 14th. but that was actually a day that bernie sanders had a permit to do a big rally in washington square park by nyu. so he didn't want to go ahead and do it. but in this debate, i think bernie san

let's bring in cnn senior political correspondent, brianna keilar. today two of the biggest blue states, new york and california, signed legislation that will gradually raise the minimum wage in their states to $15 an hour. now, remind me, where do the democratic candidates stand on raising the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour? >> reporter: jake, hillary clinton stands behind the concept of increasing the minimum wage, but she hasn't endorsed this idea that there should be an increase in the federal minimum wage, she thinks it should be left up to the states. bernie sanders has stood behind this idea of there being a federal minimum wage of $15. it's something that could endear him to working class and labor voters here in wisconsin. here in the badger state, bernie sanders is looking to narrow hillary clinton's delegate lead. >> i don't want to get hillary clinton more nervous than she already is. she's already under a lot of pressure. so don't tell her this. but i think we win here, we win in new york state, we're on our way to the white house.

>> brianna keilar joins me live with clinton's big night. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, carol. the math is really important as we look at this delegate count between hillary clinton and bernie sanders, she widened her delegate lead over bernie sander, which is exactly the opposite what sanders needed to do last night to maintain a viable path to the nomination. this is the overall count. 1930 for hillary clinton and 1223 for bernie sanders. you can see when it comes to new york, she gained 139 delegates and he gained 108. you're seeing her lead here in pledge delegates tick closer to that 300 mark. of course, her lead when it comes to all delegates, which include superdelegates much higher in the realm of 700. which is a very big lead. the sanders campaign talking about how they were making to flip the superdelegates but that's very much in question as it seems they would be rather entrenched with their decision to back hillary clinton. listen to messaging here. hillary clinton focusing more on the general election last nig
