the community schools model has struggling schools in our area by creating partnerships between the school and other community resources, resources that all benefit local families. por ejemplo, the schools, along with neighborhood community organizations, train parents to serve as mentors. we'll tell you more about this great initiative a little later in our show. right now, though, we elect a new president this year, and immigration reform is one of the most controversial issues of the campaign season. in parts of our country and, believe it or not, in parts of our area, there are still pockets of anti-immigrant sentiment. this week, abc7 partners again with citizenship now!, a hotline campaign to guide people through the often complex citizenship process. dozens of hotline providers will be on hand all week to offer free information to thousands of callers. here to talk more about this annual event, attorney andres perches lemons and sofia carreno from the city university of new york. cuny is also a big part of the campaign. thank you both for being with >> yes, thank you very much. >> w

a model community for integration. the court impeded that. saying the principles established in the affirmative-action cases regarding diversity really do not apply in the k-12 context. then as you mentioned there is the continuing controversy over affirmative action. the court is going to hear the fisher case again. it will rule and it doesn't look good to proponents of affirmative action. it may not be a sweeping holding but the nature that they court is having goes back to that word that summer same of judicial supremacy. the court in affirmative-action says it needs to be satisfied that there are not ways into alternatives there are university officials who would argue that they need to be in that position of exercising discretion about composing their bodies. here's a little bit about chief justice roberts of the parents involved decision. it was heard in 2007, some of what he wrote is this. before brown, schoolchildren were told where they could and could not go to school based on the color of their skin. the sch

>> well, one of the things we brother's keeper ambassadors program at the high school. so we've assembled a group of young men with the specific purpose of taking leadership and serving as role models and mentors to their peers. we also have a partnership with westchester community college where we are taking courses that they're offering in math and english, students who take those courses will then be exempt from entering remedial coursework if they enter college. >> oh, wow. >> so it's a very, very powerful program. i mean, there are many other programs. the thing about my brother's keep or, we're activating existing resources and partnerships that exist in the community but with a conscious, specific purpose to close the gap for young black and latino males. that's what's extraordinary about it. because the community has to acknowledge a problem exists and then make a commitment to say we're going to use our resources specifically to help these young people. >> let me ask you regards with educator, so i know it was an easy sell with you -- [laughter] you can impact
