janelle burrell joins us live from the airport with more. janelle? >> reporter: mary and chris, the fire is out, but according to port authority police, there are smoky conditions outside. you can see above us, by the departure terminal, you can see the fire trucks. they are there on stand by in case any additional flareups happen this morning. the fire started around 1:15 a.m. in the ceiling of terminal b. one flight was scheduled to depart. 200 passengers were evacuated from the terminal while firefighters put out the flames. they thought the fire was out, allowed passengers back inside. the terminal was then re- evacuated. cbs producer nick fineman was getting ready to board the airline to hong kong this out. he was among those evacuated. >> we were all evacuated to just outside the terminal. we were told it would be 15 minutes and we could come back in, then we smelled smoke and you could see it. then on 10 fire trucks showed up. they're now evacuating everyone away from the building. >> reporter: at this point, it's not clear whether the flight

janelle. >>reporter: chris, the good news in this case is that police collected more ef trying to pinpoint where that man is exactly leading to his arrest. it was near this entrance to prospect park that that woman was jogging alone. the man attempted to attack her, but she fought back. surveillance cameras capturing this video of the man they are looking for. you can see him first walking, looking over his shoulder before running from the area near prospect park close to the time of the attack. police released this sketch giving a better snapshot of what he may look like. investigators say it was around 5:15 wednesday morning that the man zeroed in on a 23-year-old woman who was jogging alone near the garfield place in prospect park west entrance. from behind, throwing her to the ground and then with a knife in his hand told the woman he was going to rape her. >> this isn't even a secluded area, you know? it isn't even like she was in the woods. scary. >>reporter: police say she tried to figh

janelle burrell is live with more, janelle. >>> mary, police say that this suspect has been busy here in nassau county that latest incident happening in this carvel around 9:30 last night police are searching for the suspect putting out these wanted posters hoping to catch him before he has a chance to strike again. >> police say the suspect waited until he was sure that the employee in the carvel in dutch broadway was alone in the store before he walked in demanding that the employee open the register cleaning out the cash before leaving. >> the robber captured on this targets six were dunkin' donuts on long island. >> police say the spree started in newhide park on march first a day later he is accused of holding up an employee in plainview over the last seven weeks detectives say he robbed stores in ocean and meadow side. and then it was this franchise. also for similar robberies in a subway and 7-eleven described as a black man between 25 and 30, 6 feet tall, 170 pounds wearing a dark colored hooded jacket dark scarf or bandanna, sunglasses gloves and blue baggy jeans. >>> police

cbs 2's janelle burrell joins us live from the scene with more. janelle. >>reporter: yeah, chris, multiple families being helped by the red cross this morning, affected, the people who operate out of this storefront, they are not able to work here obviously this morning as well. just moments ago i spoke with a man who says he runs a shuttle service out of this tax service storefront here on watchong avenue. he, for the first time as he drove up here this morning, realized what happened, that the car plowed into the storefront here around 10:00 last night. witnesses record some cell phone video showing the car soon after it crashed into the storefront at 200 watchong at the intersection of east second street. witnesses telling us that the driver was rushed away in an ambulance, though it's not clear how badly he or she may have been injured. we're told three families lived above this big, so about 20 people were displaced this morning. they are being helped by the red cross, but at this point it's not clear what caused the driver to lose control of the vehi

janelle. >>reporter: well, dick, it happened right here in the intersection of 21st road -- 21st street, rather, and 30th road in astoria where you can see cars going by at this hour. it was around 11:00 last night that police say a 45-year-old man was crossing 21st street when a car heading southbound hit him and kept going. people who live in this area here say it is common for cars to speed through this intersection, and there is no crosswalk at this intersection at 21st street or a crosswalk light. take a listen. >> certain night some cars come people have been trying to get a traffic light over here, but it hasn't happened. >> it's an intersection for this to be happening, there's no speed limit and everything is getting pretty out of hand over here. >>reporter: now, that 45-year- old man later died at elmhurst hospital. this morning police are searching for the driver of that vehicle which is described as a dark colored sedan. anyone with any information urged to contact the nypd. report

good morning, janelle. >>reporter: well, chris, we can tell you that firefighters and ems did their best to resuscitate those little girls, but it simply was too late. they found them actually inside of their third-floor apartment which is now boarded up. firefighters spent hours in there, trying to pinpoint what started the flames, and this morning police are trying to determine whether the mother had left those children alone. it was inside this charred, gutted third floor apartment in the butler houses where neighbors first spotted the fire just before 7:00 p.m. wednesday. the toddler sisters were trapped, surrounded by flames and thick smoke. >> so as we looked up, we saw the a.c. burst into flames, right here out the window. >>reporter: despite their best impossible to reach 2-year-old jannubi jabie and her 18-month- old sister amanda. >> we heard kids crying, but it was so black we couldn't breathe. >>reporter: the family next door couldn't escape either, putting wet towels underneath their door until

janelle burrell more now live in newark airport hi, janelle. >> hi there, chris. the mayor of newark says this is all about holding uber drivers and other drivers from ride share companies to the same standards as taxi drivers if they want to operate in high volume airs they have to be willing to pay. >> they offer customers officials say uber and lyft drivers need to pay up if they want to pick up at the city's busiest hubs. new york city council is expected to hear testimony today about a proposal that would require uber, lyft and other ride share companies to pay a fee of around $1,000 a year to the city. in order to transport passengers to and from newark airport and newark penn station. >> the bill comes after a contested back and fourth by the city, first banning the drivers from the airport and rail station all together, then lifting the ban then ordering it once again having drives ticketed and towed if caught violating the ordnance. >> newark's mayor argues that uber and lyft should be suggested to the same regulations and fees and taxi drivers officials

janelle burrell with more. she's live in central park this morning. >> reporter: these are extremely chilling child abuse claims police are telling us about. they say it happened around 11:50 last night right here inside the park. they say that tourist from california was approached by a 35-year-old man who was with his 11-year-old son. the tourist says that the perform sex acts on the boy in exchange for $300. police say the tourist walked away and immediately called 9-1- 1 keeping an eye on the father and son from a distance, but he eventually lost sight of the pair before police arrived. investigators this morning describing that suspect as a white male about 35 years old, last seen wearing a black coat with fur around the hood, blue jeans, dark hair, and they say he is clean shaven. this morning police are still talking with the witness in this case. they are urging anyone who may have seen the father and that young boy to contact the nypd. reporting live this morning from central park west, janelle burrell

janelle burrell is in the village with this story. janelle? >> reporter: mary, police tell us that they do believe that they have recovered the handle of the knife used in that early morning attack. you can see behind me still a number of detectives that are out here working the scene. the access to the subway station at bleaker and lafayette that is still closed off. the victim in this case is an israeli tourist as they are still trying to track down the man responsible. the subway map is what police say that the israeli tourist was looking at when he dozed off on this bench on the sixth train platform at bleaker street overnight. the man dressed in traditional from brooklyn to meet friends in the diamond district when he got lost. at some point just before 3:30 a.m. police say a man came up to him, slashed his networks arm, hands several times beore running away with the victim's cash. >> it is horrible. i mean it's horrible. >> just reaching out, striking anybody. >> reporter: this man found the victim bleeding after the attack, helping him

as cbs 2's janelle burrell reports, the most recent attack happened just last night. >> reporter: just hours after being held up at knifepoint, this carvel employee back at work shaken but grateful she says not to have been hurt. it was around 9:30 tuesday man waited until she was alone before he made his move cash drawer. >> just demanded the money. >> reporter: the employee had a similar experience two weeks ago at his dunkin' donuts in they think it's the same suspect. >> this guy walks in and he had a hunters knife in his hand and he jumps over-the- counter and grabbed my girl and demanded the money. >> reporter: he says the man got $1,500 cash the detectives say the suspect seen on surveillance video outside of the store is responsible for at least nine armed robberies across nassau county since march 1. six of those locations were dunkin' donuts shops. so why the apparent sweet spot for the donut shops? well, police have their theories. >> they believe that this guy knows how dunkin' donuts operation works and what times is the slow time and when to come in and exactly how to tha
