kpix 5's andria borba is along the tracks. what happened? >> reporter: that is up in the air right now, elizabeth. bart says they don't know if this was operator error or mechanical error. no one was hurt when it happened about 1:55 this afternoon. it was on a test track between the south hayward station and the union city station. the crash happened at under 10 miles an hour. now, this train did not totally derail according to bart. but it did land in a sand berm. they say at the moment there appears to be no clear damage to the car and no injuries. they are doing a final assessment on the car right now. it's the first new car in the wave of the future fleet that arrived, they got custody of this in late march. they were doing a test run and this happened this afternoon. those cars cost about $2 million each. bart says at this point, it's a good thing it happened when it did. they said if something were to happen to this car, they wanted it to happen before people got on. now, the plan is to put these cars into service sometime around decem
