pamela osborne is live at the airport. tell us what you learned. >> vai, here's what i can tell you right now. there were 50 passengers and four crew members onboard american eagle flight 4801. operated by piedmont the flight coming in from richmond international airport. it landed here around 8:15. prior to landing, the pilot reported smoke in the cabin. the crew and passengers were evac waited on the air field after the plane landed. one passenger had to be checked out, but there were no injuryies to report. this happened after another american american eagle flight, this one operated by republican airline communicated to the faa tower that there may be a problem. that plane also landed safely. airport officials tell me the plane taxied to its designated gate under its own power and the 76 passengers and 3 crew members got off safely. for several minutes we know things did come to a standstill. there were no planes that could take off or land here. traffic is moving again at the airport, but keep in mind very significant

"nbc 10's" pamela osborne is live for us in wilmington. we begin with "nbc 10's" lauren maik who is live for us. >> reporter: this is a pretty stunning development that you just mentioned, the kasich and cruz campaign sort of working together. the idea is that cruz would concentrate on indiana, kasich would concentrate on oregon and new mexico and they would stop donald trump from getting the nomination. now kasich was just here at the penn rose diner just about 20 or so minutes ago. we were here as he went in to shake hands with people, take some pictures and do some final campaigning here in pennsylvania before this primary tomorrow. now inside there were supporters of his. there were also volunteers who have come here from all over the country to help him with his campaign. i talked to some of them about what they think about this new arrangement. they told me they like it because they do want an open convention where governor kasich would have a possibility of getting the nomination. here is what john kasich had to say about it himself

nbc 10's pamela osborne is live in wilmington with details. pamela, what can you tell us? >> reporter: tracy, good morning, we can tell you that fight happened inside a girl's bathroom here at the howard high school of technology. last night we caught up with students who returned here to the high school for a vigil. they gathered to console one another after the loss of their 16-year-old classmate and to show her family support. there were a lot of tears, a lot of hugs, a lot of people wanting to know why, what happened? here's what we know. it was sometime around 8:15 yesterday morning when the victim, a 16-year-old sophomore student was assaulted by two other girls. the fight happened out of sight in a girl's bathroom. the victim was so badly injured, that she had to be air lifted to the hospital where she died of her injuries. the entire school was on lockdown a couple hours later, early dismissals began. as police investigators took things from there. we talked to one student at that vigil last night. i'll let her describe to you how people are feeling. >> people upse

reporting live i'm pamela osborne, "nbc 10 news." >> pamela, thank you. live team coverage continues now with "nbc 10's" deanna durante at police headquarters. what have you gathered? >> reporter: we do know what is standard in situations where police officers are shot is that the homicide division has the lead in this case. we know that homicide investigators have been up all night here. what we've learned from investigative sources, there were two separate crimes they tell us that led up to the shooting. they say there was a male who was a victim of a robbery or robbery attempt and then there was a woman who was a victim of the car jacking attempt and it's when the officer approached these men that those shots were fired. we do know that one man is in custody, was taken here to police headquarters. it's unclear how much information if any he's giving investigators at this point. we can tell you investigators are looking closely at surveillance video, video very close to the scene of that car jacking scene and investigators right now are on the hunt for

let's get out to pamela osborne live at the steen. bring us up to speed on the status of the fire. >> well, vai, the fire is out right now. i want to show you, it's on the other side of the wooded area is where that building is, and i want to show you something else. firefighters had to drag hose all the way over from this commercial industrial park area, through the wooded area to get to where that fire was blazing urlgier this morning. you're taking a look at some sky force 10 video. it was overhead as flames poured out of that building. this is at the hunter's glen apartment complex. we spoke with a woman off camera who lives in the building. she tells us she was asleep when a maintenance worker knocked on her door, alerted her to the fire. she got out okay. she said the maintenance workers went back in and rescued her cat. as far as she knew, there were no injuries. and based on what we could see, it looks like at least a few of the units there were damaged. i went to speak to someone at the front office. they said they were busy

that's where nbc 10's pamela osborne is live for us this morning. tell us what you've learned. >> reporter: vai, tracy, here's what we know so far. it was just after 2:00 a.m. when neighbors called police. they were concerned about a man sitting inside of that white dodge charger that you see there on the 1600 block of red field street. they were called here by those neighbors. they say they saw a man slumped over inside of that car. they told police that the car had been running for several hours. they thought the man inside may have been asleep or not feeling well. when police arrived to check on him, they discovered 25-year-old victim dead inside of that car. police believe that he was shot inside of that car while he was sitting there. he was shot once in the chest they are also checking surveillance cameras in the area to try to see if they picked up anything at pull. right now, no motive, no description of shooters as we await for that vehicle to be towed away and taken into evidence by police. reporting live in west philadelphia, pamela osbor

pamela osborne is in roe robbinsville this morning. good morning to you, pamela. >> good morning, vai and tracy. we know that school, again, is canceled right now at the moment. but there will be grief counselors available to anyone who needs them. take a look. you can see the flag is flying at half-staff. doctor steven mayer was more than just a superintendent of this district. students tell us he knew their names, he took the time to stop and speak to them, to say hello. we saw the effect he had on people firsthand last night, more than 500 people gathering together for a vigil at foxmore community park. they brought flowers, candles. this huge crowd pulling together hours after learning of dr. mayor's death. it was around this time yesterday morning that mayer left his home for his morning run. he was struck and killed by a 17-year-old student who was on her way school early that morning for a class trip. she stopped right away. it was too late for dr. mayer and his dog. both were killed. students and community members wrote message

pamela osborne is live in wilmington. what do we know so far? >> reporter: we know police spent several hours interviewing witnesses and two girls who they believe were a part of that fight. now, students and community members really just devastated by that fight which, according to investigators, happened inside of a girl's bathroom. at the steps of howard high school of technology is where we saw students gather last night. they were there to console one another and to show their support to the family of their 16-year-old classmate. there were a lot of tears, a lot of hugs, a lot of people asking why. here's what we know right now. it was right around 8:15 yesterday morning when the victim, a 16-year-old sophomore student was assaulted by two other girls. the fight happened out of sight in a girl's bathroom. the victim so badly injured that she had to be flown to a hospital where she died of her injuries. the entire school was put on lockdown and not long after that, the school was dismissed. now, investigators and administrators took things f

nbc 10's pamela osborne is live for us in wilmington this morning. understandably, this community is still in mourning. >> absolutely, vai. last night there was a crowd of about 100 or so people looking for more answers. we'll get to that in just a moment. for right now, it is the primary election day. that means there won't be any school for students but there will be something for parents later on tonight. the school is holding meetings today and wednesday for parents and students to discussç their concerns following an on-campus fight that resulted in the death of 16-year-old amy joyner-francis. the exact cause of death is still pending. charges have not yet been filed. the wilmington police chief said last night at that meeting he expects that to change soon. by the end of the week, he says, he believes they will have all the evidence in place to file charges against three girls. police say amy joyner-francis was assaulted at howard high school of technology thursday by at least two girls in a downstairs bathroom. she was flown to the hospital
