that was los angeles police department chief charlie beck speaking with reporters. the issue that occurred has been conta contained, a homicide and suicide occurred around 10:00 a.m. pacific time this morning in los angeles. the chief saying it was entirely contained to that event. he did say they're slowly all allowing students to come out of lock-down and going through an orderly process of releasing the students to make sure they ch k checked every corner. at this point, pete williams, it looks like this was two people, two males we learned, in a small office, one shot by the other and one who took his life by suicide. >> exactly, kate. that's what we've been hearing now the last several minutes and now the police chief has all but confirmed it saying they're investigating it as a murder-suicide, that's what it appears to be to them. a gun was found at the scene, but presumably they know more than it was a gun, i'm sure have a quick look to see whether it would be temperature with the wounds. it probably was the gun used in the shooting, as well as a note found a

but we're getting new comments from the lapd police chief charlie beck and some recent comments he made, he says that this is unfolding to be a much more complicated story. we know that the gunman is a 2013 ucla ph.d. grad, mainak sarkar. the person he killed was his professor, his name william klug. after all the mayhem yesterday when law enforcement were finally able to get into that room to examine the gunman's body, they found two handguns legally purchased in minnesota. he also had some rounds this a backpack. they also found a note, and on that note were a number of names. the police chief describing that note as a kill list. some names that were on that list according to the lapd chief, there was another ucla professor, that professor is fine. but based on that note, they did go to sarkar's minnesota residence and at that residence they found the body of a woman who had been shot and killed. the lapd is asking for help to find sarkar's car. from the time line that they beginning to piece together, they believe sarkar drove from minnesota here to ucla and then the mayhem from yest
