kris sanchez checking the latest. i understand you got an update from the fire department. >> just got off the phone with the incident commander. with the weekend coming up and considering there are campgrounds there, should folks consider bagging their camping plans. he can't say that, but it would be prudent. there is a hospital in that fire zone that is sheltering in place and in the last 15 minutes we learned that the fire exploded in size overnight. it's now 8,000 acres. that's an area bigger than daly city. it is still out of control. heat and wind will not help today. this is one of the more than 100 homes destroyed in that fire. burned down to the foundation. 1,500 other homes are still in the line of the fire. emergency crews had to evacuate 40 seniors. they are using that center as an evacuation area. hospital patients are sheltering in place. phones, cell phone towers and power towers down around lake isabella. some folks told to get out had no time to take anything. >> soon as i got to my house there was a

. >> kris sanchez monitoring the latest for us. it's been a rough 24 hours for crews and homeowners near lake isabella. >> it hasn't even been 24 hours. this fire started 4:00 yesterday afternoon and already all of this and we heard three firefighters suffered home inhalation in what is called the erskine fire. more than 80 homes are gone, 5,000 acres burned and it just started yesterday. we are waiting for a press conference from lake isabella where the bureau of land management and kern county fire will update us on the fire fight. this is our camera ready to take that in. these are some of the 80 plus homes completely gone this morning. burned down to the foundation about 1,500 other homes are in fire line. thousands are people are under evacuation orders at a red cross center. adding to that worry and fear information will be hard to find out where the avac yeahs. >> there was a sheriff saying get out. >> i know we are losing everything. plus our cats are going to be dead. >> out here is video of the fire before nightfall. kern

. >> and i'm kris sanchez. down to the south bay, other news developing right now, straight out to damian trujillo at san jose city hall, someone fired a bullet into one of the black walls there at city hall. anybody injured? >> reporter: no. we have no injuries to report but this happened a short while ago. city hall became sort of a crime scene, if you will. somebody shot a bullet through the bottom of this glass pane right here. crews are going to have to replace it at this point. the crime scene investigators were here just until five minutes ago. we have pictures here at the scene while they were investigating. they don't have any suspects, but this is something that is pretty significant if somebody decided to fire a bullet into the bottom glass panel here of city hall. we're at the tower end on the west -- on the east side of city hall. this entrance on the east side was closed for a period of time while investigators did their thing here. at this point, no suspects. they understand there will be a trump

i'm kris sanchez. >> and i'm scott mcgrew. law enforcement just about to start escorting that body to the funeral home. he will be prepared for burial. this is one of the men who tried to save his life, we hear from him. >> bob redell has the latest on that. >> reporter: good morning to you, kris and scott. you can see behind me, san jose police are guarding the body of officer michael katherman. his body inside the medical examiner's office here in san jose. in about an hour, more law enforcement will arrive to escort his body to the funeral home. he was married with two young children and had been with the san jose police for two years. he was a motorcycle officered and killed on tuesday when he and his bike collided with a van. two men who happened to be nearby rushed to officer katherman's side and one of those good samaritan used his own radio to call for help. that was the voice of dan sullivan. we spoke to him last night as he dropped off flowers at a memorial in san jose. he assisted in performing cpr on officer kather
