the fires started in a remote area in southern california and then expanded to more than 500 hectares of land being burned at this point. on top of that, we have 500 firefighters in the air andn the ground. the clouds, the smoke turning into the thick layer over the area along with the fire continuing to burn in the area, that is the concern remaining in place because it is hot and it is dry. active work in trying to contain the flames, but high pressure is the culprit that's going to keep things dry as we go forward during the next few days. we have a southerly flow that's keeping the warm temperature in place because whenever you have air flowing in from the south it pushes temperatures up. so we are going to see a dry-weather partnttern going forward in time. temperatures have been getting close to 40s and 50s because of how hot it is. that's the type of weather that those living in the desert southwest and also into southern california w will have to keep mind. to the east a low pressuree sysystem and a cold front is beg forced down from a high up north which will bring the possib

temperatures are expected to reach the high 90s in southern california, not good news for firefighters. laura? >>> sam, police in the east bay are trying to sort out a chaotic car crash in the east bay. one driver was apparently stabbed and left a trail of blood as he fled and officers caught up with him. it started in pleasant hills. officers found the man in the backyard of a nearby home. authorities say the driver struck two cars with his cadillac, and smashed into a light pole, splitting the car in two. witnesses say he then took off running, eventually ending up in a nearby yard where a homeowner spotted him. >> i turned around, there's this guy with no shirt on in the back corner of my house. it looked like he was maybe trying to jump the fence or something like that, covered in blood. >> that homeowner says police arrived before he had the chance to call 911. he says the officers briefly questioned the suspect before emergency crews took him to the hospital where last night he underwent surgery. authorities have not yet said whether the man will be charged. >>> for the second ti
