was vegas. las vegas in set being the beneficiary of the hearings because of the numbers of people who came here to work in or operate the casinos. these hearings are incredibly popular because it is the first big daytime tv show. in prime time at the time you have milton berle and jackie gleason starting out and you shows.rious daytime, not so much. these hearings are being watched and cities around the country. interestingly enough, not las vegas because las vegas does not get a tv station until 1953. seeing these people on tv, mobsters, gangs to us, accused killers, reduced a lot of the perception of them as robin robbed frome who the rich and gave to the poor, they were not such bad people. hollywood had created an image, if you will, of mobsters that maybe they were not so bad or some of them who were really bad, at least they got put away, you did not deal with them. this changes perceptions of organized crime in america. it is a popular show. it is a riveting show. it is a transformative

vegas strip. that coincided with the rise in atomic testing 60 miles north of las vegas so a lot of scientists and others who needed to work at the atomic testing site came to live in las vegas. tourists came to las vegas to witness these spectacles, aboveground atomic explosions was the 40s and 50s were a pivotal time for las vegas and its growth. las vegas face a lot of challenges it grew so quickly. what was transportation. another was education, building enough schools to accommodate all these kids. transportation for example, the building of the airport. we relate on getting caught up, the development of mccarran airport was open and already talking about expanding expanding expanding. in the 50s you saw the need to develop roads and the infrastructure for the spreading of the city. we were always behind the curve. las vegas never quite kept up with the growth. that is the nature of all fast-growing cities in the west but las vegas had an extreme case. on the positive side, keeping up with gr

was holding this rally in las vegas at the treasure island casino. a federal law enforcement official tells cbs news that this man, michael steven sandford, was taken into custody after attempting to grab an officer's gun. according to court document, sandford, who is a british citizen, got up from his seat and attempted to take an officer's weapon by grabbing the hollister and handle with both hands. sandford admitted to trying to shoot and kill trump, acknowledging that he would likely only be able to fire one to two rounds before he himself would be killed by police. sandford has been in the u.s. for the last year and a half. last thursday investigators say he drove from southern california to las vegas. on june 17th, he went to battlefield vegas gun range where authorities say he fired 20 rounds from a nine millimeter glock pistol. investigators say he had been planning the assassination attempt for about a year. according to court documents, he put his plan in motion because he said he finally felt confident about trying it. trump has had secret
