the battle between the city of durham and the durham rescue mission is heating up. and with boxes of signatures being turned over today...the rescue mission is showing they're not throwing in the towel just yet. "the one's that it was built for are the very ones that pushed out of the neighborhood." dr. ernie mills and the durham rescue mission are at odds with the city over the designation of the golden belt historic district. today, that fight included another punch by the rescue mission personally delivered a box full of petitions to city hall. nat sound with a historic designation, the rescue mission would essentially be forced to maintain and build property on lots the rescue mission owns that meets historic standards. and it the city doesn't realize. "it's hard enough for me to raise the money to feed roughly 400 people at our men's campus and our women's campus. and for them to add an extra cost to us, i don't understand that." mills is worried most about the people who will be affected by the city's golden belt designation. ones who mills says will be priced

we are following breaking news out of durham. police are investigating a homicide at an apartment complex along east -- parkway. >> we have confirmed two people were shot. one of those victims died. wral's mikaya thurmond joining us live from the scene now. mikaya? >> reporter: leyla and renee, the crime scene investigation unit of the durham police department has been on the scene here for now more than seven hours. i'm going to step out of the way to give you a live perimeter set up -- the original call came in around 12:40 last night, and that's when police responded to a call of a shooting. once they arrived, they found one man who had been shot and was injured with nonlife-threatening injuries, and another man who had died. police have not said whether it was an altercation that led to this or whether there was some outside party, but they do say they are not looking outside suspects, and there's no threat for the public at this time. but of course anyone with information is asked to contact durham police. renee and leyla? .
