robert richardson joins live from the police department with an update. robert? >> reporter: good morning, stefan and russ. as you can see behind me, these roads in uptown charlotte are pretty clear. it's been quite quiet, the another half hour. there were national guardsmen posted across from the police station, keeping watch until about 4:00 a.m., and for the third straight night, protestors were blocking some traffic on main roads but for the first time, they didn't go on a path of destruction. some stayed on the road after the curfew went in effect but haven't seen any in a couple of emergency. the goal was to focus on protecting property after seeing lots of damage and law enforcement said the situation is improving. they have not need the massive show of force. >> it's not been necessary, a peaceful group tonight, people inside the group helping to make that happen and helping to pull people away. this gentleman has been working to do the lion's share of the work and we can use it as a tool and hopefully that won't be the case. >> reporter: look at a video

robert richardson. cbs north carolina. >> yes, mayor jennifer roberts is tweeting out there will be a full investigation. details continuing to come out this morning. residents though and officials alike are asking many questions about what happened yesterday afternoon. >> charlotte police say they've been questioning witnesses and the officers who were involved. cbs north carolina joins us the studio with details that we've gathered that the point . >> this man was armed and posed a threat. but as you mentioned earlier, the family of 43-year-old scott says the disabled man didn't have a gun and was only waiting at the school bus stop for his son to get home while reading a book. the conflicting stories caused demonstrations. what we do know is police did shoot and kill scott. officials say this all started around 4:00 yesterday afternoon when they arrived the village. officers were there to find someone with an outstanding warrant. scott was not the man they were looking for but authorities say he exit

robert richardson arrived there earlier this morning. robert? >> reporter: well, i'm on old concord road and the apartment where the officer- involved shooting took and officers went to that scene around 4:00. that's when the shooting took place. they gathered last night here on old concord road and began to march their way down the road towards wt harris and even on to i-85. dozen of protesters got the northbound and southbound lanes of i-8 5 and shut down traffic around 1:30. closed for a couple of hours and police and more swat teams arrived to try and get those people off the road. they eventually were able to get the interstate clear. now, this all began around 4:00 tuesday afternoon when officers came to an apartment complex near unc charlotte's campus and they were trying to serve an arrest warrant and then they saw a man get out of a vehicle with a firearm, that's -- police say they saw the man carrying a firearm and then he got back in his vehicle. police that's when they approached the vehicle and saw the man get back out with the gun.

robert richardson join us live from charlotte with an update. robert, a much quieter morning. morning here. traffic's pretty low. we've seen some joggers, bus, rallies, everything acting as usual. the national guard, however, had a bunch of humvees at the charlotte-mecklenburg police department overnight. we didn't see the violent protest that happened tuesday and wednesday night. there were plenty of protestor and many of them violated curfew but remained peaceful. law enforcement said some of the protestors actually helped police continue to review video of the violent protestors from earlier in the week in order to make arrests. dozens of people are currently charged in connection with that kay yacht. there was a curfew from midnight to 6:00 a.m. and that curfew will continue nightly until the governor lifts this state of emergency. media, people going to and from the airport to and from work, however, are allowed to be on the road during the hours or if you have a medical emergency. other people have to stay off the road until 6:00 reporting in uptown charlotte, robert ric

robert richardson has the story. juror after two nights of violent protests, thursday night was a little more peaceful and seems like a normal morning in charlotte. people a,ñout running, people getting on buses and the trolley. just a cou t1fof hours ago, this parking ]iÑlot had a bunch national guardsmen in it guarding dzthe charlotte mecklenburg police station. the city-wide curfew went into effect at midnight but many protester stayed out blocking £roads. law enforcement was able tcx/g them cheered rather quickly. didn't see anywhere near the level of chaos and damage from previous nights. police say that some of the protesters actually helped with listing themselves with people keeping a buffer, keeping anyone would might e&want 6to out, keeping them in check. now, the curfew will continue ú nightly from midnight to 6:00 a.m. until the governor lifts the state of emergency. people needing to go to a from the airport or commuting to and from work during those hours are allowed to be on the roads as but any
