laura: laura bicker, thank you for joining us. speaking of the weather maps, for more on where the storm is headed next, i spoke with the meteorologist from the national hurricane center. i started by asking about the strength of the storm. >> it is still a powerful hurricane. 110-mile per hour winds, down five miles per hour from hours ago. that slips down a category, now a category 2 hurricane. you don't need a major hurricane to have major hurricane impacts, and that is what we want to get people's attention with. the hurricane is causing devastation along the northeast coast of florida, especially in terms of the water it is pushing onto the beaches. laura: is it still possible that the hurricane could directly hit the coast? >> it is still possible. our current track forecast brings it parallel to the georgia coast and very close to the south carolina coast, possibly making landfall somewhere near charleston as we get into saturday. it may stay offshore, it may be onshore but the impact will be the same. laura: and what is th

laura: laura bicker in jacksonville, florida, thank you. for more on the storm's potential impact in the u.s., i spoke a brief time ago with veronica johnson, a meteorologist at the abc news affiliate here in washington. you have been tracking this storm. how close do you think it is going to get to the coast of florida? veronica: here is the thing, the last couple of updates can we have seen a slightly more will,rly track, if you and we're talking about areas like fort pierce. cape canaveral. all potentially where the storm system could get close. one of the things we talked doesn't comef it ahsore it doesn't matter. , hurricane force winds extend 60 miles to the center of the storm. 20 miles off the coast, it is still going to get hammered with those winds. maybe upward to 130 miles an hour. category four. that is for quite some time. it will take its time of the coast and hitting here is my -- hitting all those areas around jacksonville throughout the day tomorrow. laura: how much damage do you expect that could cause? veronica: catastro
