the hit and run happened in san leandro before noon today. kpix 5's christin ayers tells us about the suspect in custody tonight. >> reporter: tonight one man is dead and another man is under arrest after a hit and run today in san leandro. police are saying tonight that this pickup truck was the car that the suspect was driving today when he plowed into man at his place of work. the suspect hands cuffed, he walked into a patrol car. he was involved in a deadly hit and run in san leandro today. >> we located the vehicle. >> reporter: it happened here at true world foods distribution center in san leandro. authorities say an employee at the center interrupted him as he was stealing recyclable wooden pallets. >> he tried to stop a crime and paid the tragic price. >> reporter: an argument followed. he ran over the employee, left him for dead and kept driving. for hours today police staked out recycling centers and spotted the pickup truck. >> he tack off run -- took off running. the officers chased him and found him hiding underneath a parked ve

now all of this started around noon, just before noon today in san leandro. authorities are telling us there was an altercation between a man who works a at facility in san leandro and the person who was in this pick -up truck. authorities believe the man in the pick-up truck was either stealing or didn't know that he wasn't allowed to be grabbing some wood palettes that apparently are worth quite a bit of money when they are recycled. there was a confrontation between him and the man who worked at facility and the man in the truck apparently jumped in his truck, hit the man who worked at the facility and drove off with those wood palettes. in our video you see those wood palettes were still in the back pick-up truck. not confirming tonight whether this is the same man who was driving in san leandro earlier today but again they do have a man detained at the moment and they do have that pick-up truck here just behind me. back to you. >>> our other top story donald trump is continuing his attacks hillary clinton and the mainstream media. our new survey poll sho

in san leandro haaziq madyun kron4news (ch) deadly bus crash-2-shot we're learning more about a tour bus crash near palm springs early sunday. that killed 13 people and injured dozens. catherine heenan is here with the latest on the investigation. >> catherine:the bus was full of people headed home to los angeles after a trip to a desert casino. passengers are talking about waking up pre-dawn.to hear people screaming and crying. somehow the bus slammed into the back of a big rig that had been inching along at around 5 miles an hour. the bus hit so hard.the big rig itself entered about 15 feet into the bus. aside from the 13 people killed -- 31 were injured. tonight authorities confirm the bus had no seat belts.and there's no evidence that the driver had applied the brakes. investigators don't know yet what went wrong. with the possibilities including the driver had fallen asleep or had a medical problem. a federal team will be on the scene as long as 7 days. they'll also review security video that might show what the driver was doing between the time the bus arrived at the casino aro
