circling iowa city. hundreds in iowa city gathered one week after the presidential election to protest hate and discrimination in their community. nat the prostestors marched through downtown iowa city for about 15 minutes before landing at the pentacrest. there, students, parents and concerned community members joined hand in hand, and chanted for a future that's iowa city west high school students organized this rally. students say discrimination is not just happening on the streets of their community, but also in school hallways. lujayne hamad29:12, "i felt i was too young as a 15 year old to lose hope in the world but this has made me feel a lot better." jordee:now students hope this protest will open the stage for a larger discussion of how to end hate and discrimination in this community. they discussed holding more events like this. but students also hope they will be given more classtime to discuss how to end hate and discrimination. in iowa city, a cedar rapids group, positive words and actions,

this is the anti-hate rally in iowa city. this is not an anti-trump rally and they don't want this to get political. what they want to do is talk about the hatred that has come after the election and talk about how they don't want the the most liberal areas in the state. where this came from was a few high schoolers that go to iowa city west and central high school. they were exposed to racial slurs from classmates and they felt they were not welcome. they march through downtown iowa city and they showed people that not only is this thing not right, but also they have the support of their community and that hatred is not something they will put with. they started at the robert e lee community center and they came all the way through the tiki 45 at this street and ending up here. -- pentacrest at this street and ending up here. the students plan to take grievances to the city council and tell local leaders they are upset with the way they were treated and to start a dialogue to deal with it in the future and moving forward. ma

in iowa city to dedicate the hospital. the university of iowa stead family children's hospital is designed to not only improve the health of children, but also their well being. this is video the university provided of that dedication. construction on the new, 360 million dollar hospital began in the fall of 2012. it encompasses 507-thousand square feet and has 14 levels, two of which are underground. dubuque county is celebrating the office space. it's actually a newly renovated old jail building. the jail is now home to the county medical examiner, the i-t department, and the veterans affairs office. from the mid 18-hundreds until 19-76 this building housed inmates. and for the past few decades the building was a museum. the county says renovating the old jail building was a good use of tax payer money. "it's a facility we already owned. and we were heating it and something we weren't using.
