matt delucia is outside septa headquarters. tell us what you know about this deal. >> tracy and vai, we just spoke with a septa chairman a few moments ago. he tells us there is an agreement in principle. here at septa headquarters, he left briefly, then went back inside. you can still see there is activity inside the septa headquarters lobby here on market street. they are there finalizing that deal. as we understand it, both septa and twu local 234 will be getting ready to sign it. so the folks here will be leaving and driving to the union hall momentarily to seal that deal. when that is finished, we expect septa to brief us on the details. we're told the union is yielding all comments for this case. here's why both sides are separated right now. the negotiations were on over at the sheraton downtown, the hotel had a power outage. the parties went back to their respective headquarters and communicated from there. we just learned of the deal at 3:00 this morning. we're still gathering information. here's some of our conversatio

that's where nbc 10's matt delucia is live to show us the scene. matt? >> reporter: rosemary, investigators are wrapping up their work here that scene at the parking lot outside of the macy's at the hamilton mall. i'll show you what's changed in the last half hour. they took down the crime scene tape. this tow truck now getting ready tow away the suv that had been parked here and that was the focus of the investigation for much of the early morning. take a look at some video we shot earlier from another angle. you can see that car, the bullet hole through the driver's side door. outside that car a macy's bag and chicago bulls hat laying onto ground about 20 feet away from the car shell casings littering the parking lot. we saw two dozen evidence markers next those casings. this mall, the hamilton mall closed at midnight. shoppers are starting to come back for black friday. just re-opened at 6:00. i spoke with one of those shoppers as they watched this area fill with police. >> shocking. nothing like that happens around here. why i said there must have be

. >> nbc10's matt delucia is live for us at the scene. matt, tell us exactly where this is. >> reporter: vai and tracy, the fire marshal is here on the scene. you can see all the crews are still out here at this point. what we've been told by philadelphia police, several people driving in this area around 2:30 this morning saw a fire and called 911. it wasn't until firefighters got here that they saw there was a human being engulfed in flames right there under the schuylkill expressway. firefighter has to put the body out and they said it was on a mattress burned so badly it's unclear to tell how old this person is and if it's a man or woman. it was in a makeshift homeless camp but there was no one else here when the firefighters showed up. >> we don't know if this body was intentionally set on fire. or it was possibly a homeless who accidentally caught fire trying to keep warm. >> reporter: the medical examiner is in the process of removing that body right now. there's also a dog here sniffing around to see if there was an accelerant use

matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >> traffic has been heavier than most mornings. let's get the latest now. starting off with the regional rails? >> we are seeing these updates coming in minute by minute, second by second. it is crazy out there. we are seeing delays on newark and 26 minutes delays for 521. these are the latest delays. a live shot at 76 around belmont avenue traveling from the vine. it has been a trend all morning. bumper to bumper traffic. now in the 50s but it is still going to be very delayed. upp upper hanover there is an accident. this is hill road and montgomery avenue. all of the roadways have been closed down because of this further accident investigation. we are seeing traffic being detoured as far back as route 100. this has been coming in my reports for quite a while. let's take a look at woodhaven to the vines. it is much more improved. northbound travel times, we are doing okay. travel speeds in the 50s. they are so far looking pretty good. we are doing okay as well. the regional rails will be coming in minute by minute. back to you. >>

. >> nbc10's matt delucia is live in center city. >> reporter: vai and tracy, some protests around the country are still going on. this one in center city ended several hours ago. one was at the thomas cane plaza across from city hall. this is how people are coming to terms with a future trump pressey. we heard chants. this is what it looked like as demonstrations were understand way. this moved on foot with a march from north broad street to temple's campus. there were several hundred involved in that march and also a demonstration across the way at penn's campus. no arrests or no incidents according to police, with the exception of a little bit of blocked traffic. all in all, not too bad. over in rittenhouse square there are was a prayer service held focusing on building unity after a divisive election. >> we prayed for one another. we prayed for philadelphians. we prayed for president-elect donald trump. >> i'm really concerned about violence. physical violence from either side. because you have very upset people. >> reporter: there was no violence at the rallies here in philadelphi

nbc10's matt delucia has more on that. >> reporter: vai and tracy, there were several protests here, we heard a lot of anti-trump chants. this is what we saw while the demonstrations were going on last evening. the one here at center city moved on foots with a march up north broad street up to the campus. everything hundred people involved in that march. there was another demonstration on penn's campus. philadelphia police telling us there were about 500 peaceful protesters there. no arrests, no incidents, according to police. and over at a church at rittenhouse square, not far from where we are, there was a prayer service focused on unity after a divisive election. >> we prayed for one another, we prayed for philadelphians, we prayed for president-elect trump. >> i'm concerned about physical violence. >> reporter: again, philadelphia police tell us there were no violent incidents, no arrests there. while we did see some support for democrat hillary clinton, some of the folks they're talking about were saying even she is not the answer they were looking for. there are more rallies pl

matt delucia is live outside school headquarters in spring garden with reaction from students and the parents. >> reporter: some you've got the mixed reaction there. the school year might be starting earlier, but if this change happens it won't happen for a little while. we're looking at two careers before an earlier start date. the strict of philadelphia is expected to introduce this idea at today's school reform commission meeting. the idea is to shift the school year so it starts before labor day but ends earlier in june. the school is to improve academics and a dem mix. they say they have noticed chatter schools and schools in neighboring counties also start earlier. >> we believe if school ends a little earlier we will see higher attendance numbers. >> i actually think it's a good thing and it's more in line with what the rest of the country does. >> reporter: one parent we spoke with thinks we should have year-round school. you have all different opinions there. you might talk to the students they would like more of that summertime. this doesn't extend the school year it would j

nbc 10's matt delucia. what are you seeing at philly intersnags. >> vai, just a few minutes ago, the lines were pretty short and you can take a look. lines getting a little bit longer. comes in waves and you can see the folks heading for their flights at the d & e checkpoints in phillie international. talking to some travelers, some doing this for years and aaa telling me that they expect this year to be the busiest for travel this thanksgiving than any yore since 2007. mostly because of the economy and cheaper gas. we did ask philadelphia international how many people they are expecting this week, about 610,000 travelers through next monday, and today would actually be the third busiest overall travel day this coming sunday. it will be the busiest travel day with everyone coming back home. some people are heading out of town to be with family and others have other plans. >> this is our first year doing it so we'll see how it turned out. we would probably rather be home with our family for thanksgiving but

nbc 10's matt delucia is live at callowhill depot in west philadelphia with an update. matt, you've been talking with striking septa workers. what are they telling you? >> vai, there they are right behind me here. they want the strike to end but they will not walk off the picket line and walk back on to the job until they get a fair deal. here they are for a second morning. the negotiations over at the bargaining table they continued well into the night. septa says they and the transport workersç union local 234 continue to make steady progress. i talked with the strike captain here atle callowhill district. we just heard from septa riders about what they've been dealing with. i ask these guys what yesterday was like on picket line. >> to hang in there. we are hoping you guys get what you want. you very well may have a few people from time to time that will pass by, throw some obscene gestures our way. overall, we get positive feedback from the riding public and people passing by. >> so that's what the septa workers have been dealing with out here. septa tells us that
