one aspect of this campaign is very underrecognized is that mrs. clinton and ms. trump both did manage to win the nomination against people well outside to use a football expression, which has been popular in this program, outside the 30 yard lines. the alternative to donald trump was ted cruz, who is well to the right. and the alternative to mrs. clinton is senator sanders, who is well to the left. at least they have kept their parties more or less towards the center. i do think that there's a great deal of anger in this campaign, much more than there was in '64. i think the reason is that the preceding 15 years have been years of misgovernment. i put it to my fellow panelists, it has been the poorest period of presidential government in history. more so than the ten years preceding the civil war and more so than the three republicans between president wilson and president roosevelt. and the country is angry at that, and there have been references to that earlier in the program. but i think it's not the sort of extremely dangerous anger that has been portrayed. i
