tonight, a dubuque school committee will talk about using a controversial book in future curriculum. some parents have an issue with the book "the perks of being a wallflower". it's required reading for students at hempstead high "graphic sex scenes" and depictions of drugs and alcohol use surprised them. since the last meeting, the committee has read the book to better judge its educational value. tonight's open discussion starts at 5:30 at the forum. that's on 23-hundred chaney road. a program that provides high-school students with real-world experiences wants to double its reach with a new school in marion. iowa big made that announcement last night at its open house in cedar rapids. schools. and it's made possible, in part, because of a $1 million dollar grant. that grant came the x-q- the super school project, which promotes a different type of learning. school leaders are now working to find a location for the new school.
